@MaineLonghorn, very funny about the bagel breakfast! Enjoy the time with your D at her college!
Seems like lots of family visits…some fun and some, well, not so fun.
We leave early tomorrow for a wedding in Ohio. D1 is the MOH and will be giving a toast. Can’t wait to see her (and the bride and groom, of course!). Happy weekend everyone!
Tailgating with DS1 this weekend - possibly our last with him unless he decides on the PhD. We tailgate with DS2 also but it’s a different atmosphere (their team isn’t good).
Will pick up DS2 on Wednesday evening for his Fall Break. Can’t believe mid-terms are happening already.
Helping D1 and her bf move into their new place. They have friends that will help with the big stuff. H will hang all the pictures and put up shelves and put the desk together. I will organize the kitchen. The best thing about the new place is they can store our paddle boards there and they are just a block from the bay when we want to use them.
DD’17 and DD’19 will both be home. Not a lot planned, other than taking DD’19 to the bank to get some things set up now that she’s 18. Oh, and we’ll probably go out for supper Saturday night to celebrate my and DD’17’s birthdays that happened this week.
Last weekend I was away in upstate NY where the leaves were starting to turn. So lovely and fun.
This weekend going to a lunch with family tomorrow and may go to the art studio on Sunday, but otherwise have a lot of deferred project and cleaning around the house. It was too nice all summer and kept going to the beach. Not fun, but necessary.
The house needs to be cleaned, I take care of my elderly neighbor’s yard so need to do that and I need to tend to at minimum some minor paint tasks outside my house.
A weekend visit to my mom - maybe do her yard too - sometimes it feels like I spend my free time mowing lawns!
My closet could use some attention - may do a sweep of summer stuff that has seen better days and bring in some fall clothes to the rotation.
Busy weekend. Hanging lights tonight for neighborhood Oktoberfest tomorrow. (A bunch of guys learned how to brew beer about five years ago and now hold a party as a fundraiser for a local park.) All weekend our town is having an arts festival, I want to see a couple of friends who are performing and exhibiting. I am exhibiting and won a second place in watermedia in the juried show for my Chinese style ink painting. Sunday morning we somehow got stuck with hospitality for a religious institution. I need to prepare food for that and Oktoberfest. And we’ll probably also go to the gym on Sunday.
We took a trip to Southern California for a get-together with my step siblings and half brother. We haven’t all been together since my father died in fall of 2015. We really enjoy each other, but the oldest couple (stepsister and her husband) can’t travel as easily now and they live out here in SoCal. My stepbrother lives in Boulder (and brought his girlfriend) and my half-brother lives in northern VA. So here we all are in a gorgeous VRBO 5 blocks from the beach (except for the couple who lives here in town) and enjoying catching up. I’ve had two great runs in cooler weather along the path by the beach. The travel to get here wasn’t fun- had to get up before 3 am, but here we are!
Our weekends usually start on Thursday evening. Last night I got my H to agree to go see Downton Abbey. It was my birthday so I got to pick the movie. Friday mornings I have a meeting with good friends and H plays tennis. We meet up for lunch out. Not sure where we will go today but will probably try to pick somewhere with outside seating as the weather is beautiful. Tomorrow we will head up to my in-laws who live in a wine grape growing area 45 minutes north and we will have dinner out to celebrate my birthday. It should be a pretty drive and nice up there. Sunday I think my H is playing beach volleyball and I will go to a stretch and foam roller class at my gym. My son has offered to go to the class with me as a birthday gift. I will get some sitting outside by my pool time. I have a book to read and the weather is perfect.
H is also obsessing over some planned travel he wants to make for next summer.
I have my final exam in my Human Anatomy intensive on Monday so this weekend will be for memorizing nerves and arteries! Have to find some time to get outside though since it’s going to be a gorgeous weekend here… maybe I can rope my boyfriend into showing me flashcards in the park near our apartment.
Tomorrow is one of the twice yearly days to take in shredding, old electronics and appliances for recycling, old mattresses, big box cardboard, dried up paint, and old bikes for a bike shop to fix up and give to low income kids.
My son will load the RAV tonight and I will take it in the morning.
Sunday will be spent at church with meetings before church and a congregational business meeting after a potluck lunch.
I started out the weekend by attending a memorial service for a friend who had a brain aneurysm and died at 53. It was really nice to see so many people turn out. I think we’re all about the age where we realize it is really important to show up for events like this. It really helped restore my faith in humanity.
Tomorrow we drive up to Ohiopyle PA to start our 4 day bike ride of the Great Allegheny Passage. We ride Sunday -Weds (last I checked 2 days were supposed to rain - which is better than the 3 they were predicting). My husband is a great sport for agreeing to do this with me. (Right now said husband has been “snoozing” since before 8 - but he will be up for the ride).
This weekend husband and I will divide and conquer. I’m going over to my mother’s apartment and doing a last pass to prep for home evaluation before she’s released from rehab. And husband has something out of state tomorrow morning; tomorrow afternoon he’s taking an old couch and old dehumidifier to the dump.
I would sound happier about this, but now that the basement’s clearer, he says it would be a great time to snake a pipe that’s given us trouble in the past. Last time we did that our yard was festooned with an unearthly bleached sludge that younger son asked us to photograph…
We are in the city where D and SIL live-visiting them and meeting the new grand puppy. It is homecoming weekend for the school D attends ( she is an MBA student) and I find that very exciting as my alma mater did not have a football team and neither did D ‘s undergrad. This is big time college football and I’m excited for the tailgate and game.
In addition, H and I are seriously considering moving to this city when we retire in the next year or two so we are scouting neighborhoods!
Depends on how much worse I feel after getting shingles vaccine today. So far hurting arm. Hope to avoid fever, etc. so farmers market and house straightening if feeling ok. Today was suppose to be last of super hot days (98, 99) and is only suppose to be 80 tomorrow so porch time!
Farmer’s Market this morning – selection and color of all the produce was out of this world! I’m a better person just for going! (though I bought a lot too!)
This is my first weekend home since the beginning of September. We’ve been gone every weekend going to S19’s games. This week the game is too far so we are home finally. I’m starting week 2 of Dh being gone on business trip in London. D17 is studying in Spain but her schedule is such that she has Fridays and Mondays off. She flew to London yesterday and is staying with Dh until Monday. I’m envious of the pictures of them together on Instagram!. Had Dh had more notice of this trip, I would’ve gone for the portion D17 is with him but it was too late for me to find reasonable airfare.
While they are traipsing around London, I’m holding down the fort at home, chauffeuring younger two around. Last night I had to take D23 back and forth (30 mins each way) to h.s football game. S21 and I went out to dinner. This morning we got up early and went into the city to serve food on a street corner to the poor/homeless with a local organization. First time we’ve done it with this group but kids already said they want to go again next weekend.
Dropping D23 at mall later with her new h.s. friends including a boy she hopes will ask her to their homecoming dance. S21 and I will watch the Navy/Air Force game (go Navy!) then later watch S19’s away game online.
It felt good to finally wake up to fall weather after record breaking 97 degrees on Wednesday. This is perfect running weather-so excited we are finally saying goodbye to humidity so I can enjoy cool weather runs. We are in a drought so leaves have been falling much earlier than usual. Tomorrow I will be doing a big yard clean up after getting a nice run in.
