Whatcha Doin This Weekend?

A thread idea from the CC past…

Whatcha doin’ this weekend? Road trip? House DIY? Binging? Eating/Cooking something new or delicious? Seeing others or hanging out at home?

My D is coming home this weekend! We have plans for museum outings tomorrow and Sunday. I’m very excited. After she goes home Sunday, H and I have concert tickets.

Now we just need H’s flight to get here from the west cost.

Looks like a rainy weekend here. Bummer. A couple of home small DIY projects on tap. A few store errands. Maybe have a meal out with my son who is home alone since his wife is at my daughter’s bachelorette! Other “have to’s”, maybe if weather changes some “want to’s”!!! Oh and saw a recipe for some cherry pie bars I may attempt to make. :cherries:

Going for cocktails tonight at a fun place then to dinner for my birthday with H and both girls. Tomorrow is D1’s bridal shower so I am actually running a bunch of errands today for that.

I spent today helping D with GD. GD is not feeling well, and she really wants Momma … but D was leading some meetings (she works remotely). Oh, and the dog is upset that GD is sick. It wasn’t easy, but we made it through. Now H & I are waiting for the rain to stop so we can walk. We will find a fish fry for dinner tonight. The rest of the weekend is unplanned for now. Maybe we’ll go to see S (a little over an hour away) and take him to dinner.

Too bad you didn’t do this last weekend! Younger S and GF flew down to visit! It was a great weekend!

This weekend isn’t quite as interesting on Saturday. Just cleaning the house. But Sunday! We are driving to Dulles to spend the night before our Global Entry Interview. We had conditional approval last summer, but it took this long to find an appointment!

The cooler news (to us) is that we are planning to eat dinner at a German restaurant on the way up. I have passed this place literally hundreds of times in my life, and for years I always read the name as “The Barbarian Chef.” After several years, H called it that outloud when we passed it. And since we’ve always sworn that we need to stop, but we never pass it by when it’s dinner time, or when we would want to take the time to stop.

So Sunday is FINALLY the day we ARE going to eat there… It’s only been 32 years…

Trying to carry most everything from downstairs up the stairs (all the small stuff). We had a leak and have to have all the hardwood replaced /refinished. That’s everything but the laundry room and the bathrooms. Including the very deep coat closet under the stairs where I keep the Christmas tree because I can’t carry the biggest segment upstairs by myself safely. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

DH is in MD for his cousin’s 35-year Army retirement ceremony. He is staying with our son and DIL. I decided to stay here and spend a couple of days with my dad and his wife who live about an hour and a half away. Will return home tomorrow to enjoy a day to myself before picking up DH from the airport Sunday afternoon. Until he returns, I will eat things he is allergic to and watch a couple of movies that wouldn’t interest him.

So, this weekend, you’re “draggin’ mom.” I’m sorry about your leak, @dragonmom, but couldn’t resist. I hope the repairs go as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

Thanks for the grin! I was “dragon” a box of piano music upstairs this afternoon and lost my grip and all of it slowly cascaded down the stairs like a Vegas card sharp laying out her deck. Fortunately I didn’t use language like that when we had children at home. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Tomorrow the box will be taped closed.

I’m going to see Air Supply at the local symphony center. Is that embarrassing?

I’m changing clocks!

Actually, if the weather cooperates, I’ll be in the backyard getting more vitamin D like today. Maybe even put the hammock up.

Nothing this weekend, but last weekend we went fossil hunting on the Potomac with our daughter and her SO. We went to Stratford Hall, the birthplace of Robert E. Lee; they allow fossil collection on the beaches of the estate. The cliffs along the beach have deposits of fossils from compacted sea matter dating from the Miocene Epoch – approximately 17 to 10 million years ago. The fossils erode off the cliffs onto the beach, then into the river.

The outing was organized by a member of a Facebook group for VA and MD fossil hunters and was a great experience. As we were beginners, we were scooped up by one of the volunteers who pointed out a few fossils to us and gave us some tips, then left us to our own devices. Coincidentally, she lived on the same street as my daughter’s bf’s parents in a town close to Stratford Hall.

It was a rainy and wet day, but we came away with a nice collection of shark teeth, a dolphin spinal disc, turtle shell segments, some ray dental plate segments, various bone pieces, and a couple of small crabs. We were wet, cold and muddy when we left, so we didn’t spend any time touring the buildings or grounds of the estate (it was home to several generations of Lee men, two of which signed the Declaration of Independence). That’s something for the next visit.

Our dentist is near the location in Madison! We’ve driven by it several times, too, but it’s always before they open. We’re planning to go to Shenandoah NP in May, so perhaps we can time our travel to visit. We’ve been to the Edelweiss in Staunton a couple of times – also very good.

I took the guys to Calvert Cliffs a couple of times when they were into fossils. Can’t go fossil hunting there any more, as a couple of the cliffs have collapsed and the powers that be have pronounced it Dangerous. But gee, all the fossils that are now exposed!

Have never heard of Stratford Hall, and that’s an easy day trip for us. Thanks for sharing!
