Need a distraction. Always nice to live through others.
Whatcha doing???
Nothing overly exciting on my schedule - lots of “to-do’s” that have to do with the change of seasons. Need to pick out my pepper plants, herbs before a freeze. Need to buy organic garlic to plant next year. Need to clean out the lower deck plants/umbrella table, etc.
We are pup sitting a grandpup - so that’s extra walks in addition to our own pup. I made a berry crisp last night and plan to enjoy that. I’m stuck on dinner ideas.
Might hit an estate sale. Need to look for a few home items online.
Tomorrow we head to our cottage for the final closing chores. I recently learned that the spots on the cottage’s wood floor are spider poop (yuck), so I have that cleanup on my agenda.
We may go hiking this weekend. Weather is supposed to be beautiful. The leaves are pretty much at peak. Only hesitation is that I’m sure it’s going to be crowded, and if I drive 1:15 I want to get a parking place. And we both have to workout prior, so we won’t leave until after lunch. But if we can’t go up the mountain, maybe we can find a less travelled trail/parking lot in the park. Or skip it all together and go somewhere to eat.
Today is D and SIL’s 10th wedding anniversary so I am watching the kids while they go to dinner tonight. They won’t be back until 11 or so, so I am staying overnight.
I have a few miscellaneous chores on Saturday and plan to walk around the lake.
Book club meeting on Sunday morning. A pop up patisserie opened up in my neighborhood and we are meeting there for coffee and pastries along with our discussion.
On Sunday afternoon D, SIL and I are taking the grands to the trolley at the lake for a Halloween themed ride (it sells out, but I snagged tickets). GD (3 yo) will wear her costume and I am excited for her. Should be fun. We will probably come to my house afterward, turn on football and have dinner.
Visiting the College freshman for their homecoming game.
Back in elementary school we had to write to pen pals. I was always jealous of my classmates who got assigned states like California or Florida. I was given a pen pal from next door in Michigan. The power of social media kept us in touch as adults and we met in person once. When I announced on social media where my daughter was going to college the pen pal reached out. Ends up her husband and his family are alums and do a huge tailgate every year. So we will be meeting up with my old pen pal too that I haven’t seen in 20 years too!
Tonight book club, tomorrow painting new siding that will be installed next week (while watching the Penn State game), Sunday going to a car show at Lime Rock Park in the am. Hoping to hike later. I’m dry aging a couple of prime strips for dinner Sunday.
We are supposed to watch two of the local grands as it’s their parents anniversary. It’s now up in the air as GS came down with a fever last night. He’s feeling better this morning but we will see. Also he has his birthday party on Sunday. I hope he’s feeling better for his birthday.
It’s a beautiful day today so I think my husband and I will go out to lunch somewhere with outside seating.
Dinner out tonight with H and D2 at a local place we love. Tomorrow we have a Halloween party at a friend’s house. H and I are milk and cookie (costumes from Amazon). Sunday my brother and SIL are bringing my mom to our house for lunch and to meet our almost 3 week old granddaughter. Weather this weekend in SoCal is low 70’s so just perfect.
We are driving out to the Poconos first thing tomorrow morning. Meeting up with a group of friends to do a bike ride down the Lehigh Gorge trail, then camping out overnight.
Taking my 16 1/2 yr old grouchy cat to the vet. Otherwise, plans are wide open. Hopefully my husband is able to come home tonight so won’t have to drive to the airport on the weekend. Alaska Airlines is no longer on the nice list.
Helping planning our sons wedding. Nov 16th. Talking to some vendors, running errands. Nothing much else today
Saturday Michigan /Michigan State game and we are having friend’s over to watch the game. We have a theater room and all went to one or the other school. Should be fun. Most couples will bring stuff.
Sunday - Bears football. Lol. Cutting the grass. Kinda a slow weekend.
It’s low 50s today but sunny and went for a long walk this morning like 4 miles. Just getting hot chocolate with some coffee in it. One of those beautiful fall days.
We took a drive to Charlottesville today, beautiful foliage! Stopped at Whole Paycheck, where I hadn’t been in some time. Then we headed a bit further east for a barbecue lunch in Gordonsville, then home. I am working on drawing some hydrangeas. Hopefully we’ll get a hard frost tonight and I’ll finish cleaning up the garden beds.
In addition to some yard clean up, I cleared out a good portion of my raised beds picking out the produce - still have some pepper plants on the other side of the house that I’m going to let go for a bit longer. Even though they should survive till probably December, I cut several varieties of herbs today, washed, dried (use a salad spinner!) and packaged them up for the freezer.
ZILLIONS of these teeny tiny green tomatoes got washed/dried too and are in a paper bag to turn rosy red.
