Whatever Happened to Goth?

It has been quite some time since I have had the “pleasure” of seeing some young person dressed in black with makeup and strange hair. It would seem to me that the Goth subculture is dead. What’s it like in your neck of the woods?

With Halloween coming up maybe Goth will result in a resurgence?

If you go into the school cafeteria during a pep rally, you will find the Goth kids.

razorsharp, please come to our neck of the woods. There is no shortage of Goth types here in Seattle.

Goth isn’t dead, but from what I am told, it doesn’t have nearly the presence in the New York metropolitan area that it did, say, 10 or 15 years ago.

In our neck of the woods there are a fair number of kids who are a little bit goth, but hardly anyone who goes all the way. So there are some mohawks, lots of kids with piercings, plenty who wear black some of the time, some with the racoon eye look, lots wearing chains, but hardly any full time devotees.

So anyone have the vampirefreaks add to the left when they view this thread? The internet scares me sometimes,

Thanks for the invitation. These days I will take any invitation I can get. :)

Every now and then I see some but not much. They’re always good for a laugh or two.

goth has been largely replaced by emo

here in so cal it seems that the Goths have mellowed into what my H and I call “YDTs” (Young Dark Things)

It’s just a fashion thing.

Ya most people call goths emo kids now.

yup  Goth=emo

There’s even an “Emo Kid” song:

I’m an emo kid, nonconforming as can be
You’d be nonconforming too if you looked just like me!

In Olympia, we hardly notice.

Goth =/= Emo.

However, it seems that the goth subculture has been replaced by the emo subculture.

[Emo Vs. Goth: Why They’re Not The Same | Shoutmouth](<a href="http://www.shoutmouth.com/index.php/docs/Emo_Vs._Goth:_Why_They’re_Not_The_Same]Emo">http://www.shoutmouth.com/index.php/docs/Emo_Vs._Goth:_Why_They’re_Not_The_Same)

…Although a lot of what they say goth kids and emo kids listen to is wrong (for the record).

We’ve got plenty of goth and emo kids but this is South Texas and the trends do take longer to get here.

Off topic, but so cool. All this discussion of goths has finally netted some different advertising sponsors for me. Hooray! No more University of Phoenix for the moment. I have goth stuff. :D

I have never seen a goth at my high school. Plenty of “emo” kids, but no goths.

We still have goths in southeast MI, but emo is more common than goth … which strikes me as a funny thing to say, since the goths & emos kind of pride themselves on being un-common! The new thing among those who want to be a bit different at my son’s school is “straight edge” - emo look, but pledge to abstain from drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and swearing … maybe sex, too, but I can’t remember for sure.

It’s always interesting to see what’s the newest “burn out.”

The ad at the top of the screen is now for vampirefreaks.com!
