chocchip, I’m thinking that carrot kugel may be my thanksgiving contribution to the family potluck!

that kugel sounds delicious!

It’s election night. We have always ordered in pizza.

But our house is strictly kosher now, since our kids have become more observant. (in the past, we would have just ordered in veggie pizzas. And we still eat out)

So tonight we will just make a couple of pizzas. i picked up some crusts this afternoon, so it’s not like I’m really cooking anything…

Pot roast with potatoes and carrots in the crock pot. The whole house smelled so good when I got home from work.

Homemade chicken noodle soup to combat the cool, rainy and gloomy day here. Hoping it helps me fight off this crud I have.

Leftovers before heading to friends’ to watch the election returns. Anticipating plenty of stress nibbling and a long night.

Pork ribs with a spice rub, cooked at low temperature in the oven. And a salad.

^^Thanks, hope you guys enjoy the carrot kugel. We have one kid here who won’t eat carrots, but this recipe does the trick and he loves eating carrots this way. Same with Zucchini nut bread! :D

It is so warm here…poached salmon, pasta with veggies, fresh fruit. Wine to keep us going through the night.

We had Costco mahi mahi sauteed in olive oil and a bit of butter, roasted asparagus, salad and brown rice. It was quite tasty and satisfying. I like my basmati brown rice cooked in half chicken broth. Just have to be patient and it is quite yummy. My dog is very put out by it though. She prefers white rice.

I’ve never understood the deal with kugel. I guess you have to grow up with it. :)

Tonight’s dinner came from September’s Real Simple. Chili in a crockpot. Hamburger, black beans zucchini, tomatoes. I didn’t have sour cream for a topping but quark made a pretty good substitute. Did have the cilantro and avocados. I added more spicing and put in a bit of a chili pepper. It was still a bit underspiced in my opinion.

Meatloaf sandwiches, chips, fruit platter, glass of cold milk. Wish we had some chocolate in the house.

Homemade minestrone in the crockpot. Comfort food. Yum!

Wine and chips.

Hotel comfort food.

^^mathmom:

They call this recipe kugel, but it’s really a very light savory cake, cut into squares. You can even pick it up to eat, like a light cornbread.

Your chili sounds yummy!

choccochip,

I may try that carrot kugel just because I’ve always been mystified by what one does with canned carrots. Now I know!

Tonight is “stammtisch” night. We meet up with friends at the same local restaurant every Wednesday. We have been doing this since the kids were young - very fun. It’s where everybody knows your name. All the employees celebrate milestones with us - birthdays, anniversaries, first drivers license, etc. My kids’ school pictures were up on the wall for years.

Leftovers. 4 adults- H, me plus guest woman grad student, M-in-law currently for this month. Some mac’n’cheese, eggplant Indian style, green (whole mung) dal, rice. Every “man” for him/herself. Every person capable of cooking for themselves- some of us for everyone (think experienced mothers/wives). It has been nice to have 4 instead of 2 to cook for, but after a few days time for a break, even for someone who likes to cook. The guest is learning about different foods- something I have learned over the decades of marriage.

rack of lamb, asparagus, baked potato…

Rotisserie chicken, some sort of veggie.

I think I would rather go to ellebud’s house…

I have extra…and you are welcome!
