Understatement of the year. From what I see on social media, they’re considerably increasing the level of racism in the society. This would be felt for years to come. Let’s face it, the level of inequality, crime, police brutality, riots, lack of reasonable leadership all point to the U.S. fast becoming a third world country with nukes.
@roycroftmom , I’m not advocating violence, just explaining why it sometimes has to happen to bring about change. It’s a last resort.
Really? I suggest you read up. Plenty online explaining this, well before May 2020. It’s pretty central to understanding and taking racial issues seriously. We all have a responsibility to get this right and, therefore, I’ll let you and anyone else liking and agreeing your post do your homework instead of spending my energy trying to convince you because I honestly think you don’t choose to see the difference if you don’t see it by now, after years and many deaths.
"I honestly think you don’t choose to see the difference "
I just assume it is straight up baiting.
I’m stunned that someone as well endowed with huge information resources literally in your hands would claim in 2020 not to know the significance of BLM and how it relates to All Lives Matter. The BLM movement started in 2013 for Pete’s sake.
I’m not on FB, but unfortunately I’m seeing this IRL too from the looting and riots. I’ve been doing my best to try to distinguish the peaceful protesters from the looters and rioters so folks can see there’s usually a difference. I think too many are linking them together.
It’s an anecdote because I don’t have contact with too many people right now compared to normal - mainly neighbors and a few friends/acquaintances/extended relatives, but it’s been way too many going that direction for my comfort level. I fear it’s symbolic of many more.
To say something has to happen condones this vile and evil behavior from the rioters.
Wow, BLM calling for a national defunding of police. No further research necessary. LOL
Are they trying not to be taken seriously?
Again, I was not saying it is required in this case, only that in some cases, only violence will bring change. This may or may not be one of those cases. Whatever happens, I pray that these deaths and this destruction is not wasted, and that something good does come out of this.
You may be right Sybylla that this is just baiting from roethlisburger. I hope so.
At this point I don’t care about nuances in slogans. There are more reports of looting and cages of bricks being set up for more violence.
cages of bricks being set up for more violence.<<<<<<<<<
This was a strategy used against peaceful protest in Northern Ireland (Burntollet Bridge).
What I’m seeing: People here in greater Seattle are worried after the violence of the weekend. UW Seattle sent out an alert, warning of possible violence at a nearby shopping center. Evergreen Hospital, early epicenter of COVID-19, is cancelling all appointments this afternoon, because the city of Kirkland is fearing outbreaks of violence. Curfews for various cities remain in effect.
@KnearSeattle - they are not just “fearing it.” It is happening.

Oh, no. Stay safe, BB. I’m just north of there.
^I keep thinking of Northern Ireland with the rubber bullets.
I live in a suburb outside of San Francisco and the town right next to ours was looted last night with multiple stores being hit. It’s an upscale shopping area with Apple, Tiffany, Lulu Lemon, Nordstrom, etc. There were people posting on Twitter calling for people to head to Walnut Creek with their axes, baseball bats, etc. to destroy the town because “rich white people” live there. So sad
I am all for peaceful protests and everyone’s right to be heard, but the looters are not protesters, they are criminals taking advantage of the situation.
Re: Seattle
It probably did not help that a Seattle police officer was seen on video kneeling on the neck of someone being arrested (i.e. like Derek Chauvin did on George Floyd). Not exactly the best look in terms of calming down the situation.

Stop it right there. Watch KING5 coverage. The “helpless protester” was a white thug looting our downtown. He was resisting arrest and hitting the officers. The social media only showed the last few seconds, and there was no kneeling. Just stop spreading the misinformation.
My son was called back to his office last Thursday after working from our sleepy rural town in the middle of no where since March.
Stores around him have been looted. His friends with apartments/homes in the City Center have left and are staying with their families in hotels outside the city. His office always has a ton of security, so I am not worried about his workplace. I am worried about his apartment complex.
I can’t wait for 2020 to be over.
