When we were kids, my best friend ( who is still my bestie even now) and I were totally into ‘secret agent’ stuff… Cameo was my code name. I was a ‘late bloomer’ parent… Became a mom at age 43.
^mine is derivative of an old nickname too
@kelsmom Stacy"s Mom would have been a great choice! Do we have one of those? ‘Cause you know, Stacy"s Mom Has Got It Goin’ On!
My avatar is a house that I saw when traveling in Denmark last year. I was fascinated by the apple tree that was pruned to grow flush against one of the outside walls. On the opposite wall was a working pendulum clock. I just thought it was a really cool looking home
I used to love to collect baskets (and use them). Also can be a worrier. So “abasket” became short for “abasketcase”. My avatar is our shore side view at our cottage on Lake Huron, Canada side. I wish I was there right now!
First initials of the those closest to my heart and my profession. Pic of profession
That is my first name and first letter of my last name (phonetically.)
That is my more mischievous dog next to his toy that says “naughty.” My sweetie pie has the same toy but it says, “nice” on it.
My name is Tom and I am from Boston. My son got me hooked on CC, he is also tom, so the "sr’ means senior. Not very creative on our part. My avatar is the logo for my undergrad university’s capital campaign.
I’m a mom; I live in Virginia.
Picture is from a trip years ago. I’m in there somewhere…
I am both of those too…but I joined cc after you did ![]()
Changed my avatar to something that wasn’t my dogs for the first time in a long, long time.
New one says “Nothing about us without us” It means that no decisions should be made about X group of people without input from that group. This one is specifically related to persons with disabilities but it can be used by any group.
We’ve been doing better about it over the last decade but I see a sharp slideback in the near future.
My name doesn’t make sense anymore—it is my college mascot and my oldest son’s mascot from the first college he attended. But he transferred after freshman year, so it no longer applies.
I just added a photo! It is 2 of my 3 animal companions (the 3rd is another kitty).
Hmm, I look a bit like Daenerys, I went from being meek and shy to tough and determined, my husband looks like a civilized, smart iteration of Khal Drogo, and my daughters are as tough and fiery as dragons.
The logo is a stock logo that I tweaked in illustrator (changed shapes, colors, and details).
FWIW, I’m not a fan of the show, though. The books are ok.
Confession time: my son was a scout for only a short time. I’m scoutsmom because one of my cats was named Scout. Now that he’s gone, I like having the name even more.
My avatar, as I mentioned in the original thread, is a photo in the marketplace in Pompeii, with Vesuvius in the background. I like the connotation of “you never know…”
I needed a name I wouldn’t forget, and I can’t forget how much I hated the ridiculous film of the same name. I logged in about four times for the first four or so years I was a registered user so it didn’t matter. Now that I am more or less a regular, I would probably change it, but, oops-too late.
I rather like the take on my username that one of the other posters so keenly pointed out to me after I revealed that my husband has sleep apnea. So, I could claim that as impetus, but, the truth is, well, no.
My favorite books when I was a child in late elementary school were The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. The fourth book took the Newbery Medal and is entitled The Grey King… I thought it would make a cool username, though I am female.
Never bothered with an avatar because I am not at all visually oriented and one was not required to join the site, unlike a username.
How are things? About the same. Avatar is my law school application picture [yes, you had to submit one: how times have changed] from 43 years ago.
My son had ready applied to college when I joined this community. I had just volunteered to run the book club at the city library. I didn’t deserve that honor, but they had just had budget cuts and needed someone to take over. Ten years later, I’ve grown into the role.
My avatar was a typical day at the beach, with the current book I was reading.
When I was coming up with a username, I was thinking about other forums I’d joined when DS17 was a handful of a 4-year-old. Somewhere in those forums, I ran across the term “initial negative reaction” regarding transitions, which perfectly described my kid. Now, he wants to do everything, and his younger sibling doesn’t want to do anything (with us). But, learning how to approach transitions back then was super valuable, and I was hoping this forum would be similarly valuable (it is). So “Why not go?” came from trying to get past his initial “no.”
And, all my usernames start with Y.
The image is something I found on Google of a local beach. Can’t find it in higher resolution now though.
