<p>I usually dislike hip hop/rap.</p>
<p>But good rap does exist. I think… there is a rap genre (for lack of a better word) for everyone, just like bubble-gum pop, rock, etc. </p>
<p>I always hated rap until I listend to Blackalicious, A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5.</p>
<p>And yeah, not all rap is a mix of random words.</p>
<p>Here’s some random Blackalicious’s lyrics (“Blazing Arrow”):

<p>ANYTHING BY SIMPLE PLAN!!! Well, actually I’ve only heard their songs by my friend who thinks he’s really “punk”, but he’s painfully the antithesis.</p>
<p>Though by no means am I even “close” to punk. I mean, I like some groups, like Alkaline Trio and Stellastarr (do they qualify?), but I am a major nerd. But atleast I’m self-aware.</p>
<p>And that Prince song when he sounds like his voice is 3 octaves higher and squeaks the whole time makes me want to scream.</p>

<p>all the blonde/white pop singers. and idiots like nsync and the backstreet people. Hardcore rap is the worst, ones with a curse every 2 secs. Metal (not all) but the ones with the long haired people screaming. That gives me shivers… i can do the same thing.</p>

<p>No skill 100% power-chords emo and pop-rock BS (including Simple Plan, New Found Glory, Blink 182, Sum 41 and the like) suck and are just about as bad as rap. </p>
<p>Nu-metal is absolutely crap (Three Days Grace, newer Sum 41, newer Metallica and the like)</p>
<p>Lead guitarists in those bands can’t play too much other than power-chords, let alone rip a solo.</p>
<p>Take the new Guns N’ Roses lineup for example.

They can all shred. You see them trading off solos or doing double-harmonized solos.

<p>Well Cobane blows at guitar too. Have you heard of any decent guitar riffs by Cobane that consisted of more than 3 chords/notes? His stuff is simple and anybody who’s been playing guitar for 3 months can play all his stuff</p>

<p>Yea… I just followed the spelling of the person above me without much thought. Anyway were you trying to say he was NOT a good guitarist but was a good song-writer or vice versa?</p>
<p>Well, his songs are simple for sure. His band brought back the ‘3-chord-riffs’. I’m not so sure if he is a good songwriter… I’ve written better and more complex/abstract songs on my guitar.</p>
