do u have to pay it all back?

what happens if you fail a class when on financial aid?

do u have to pay it all back?

no. however, you only have to keep a 2.0 GPA for most of the FinAid awards. though i know for suer that for cal grants you have to have a 3.0. you may want to double check the rest of your awards though…

but i have a cal grant i earned in CC that was waiting for me. i have it for two years … so i dont believe they can take that way.

just trying to plan ahead for my F in diff equations

Malishka,

Have you gone to see a tutor? Maybe spent some time talking it over with your professor? There must be a way to work it out.

Take the initiative to avoid getting that F.
You do not want yo jeopardize your GPA if it is preventable, and believe me it is! Your professors do not want you to fail (or so it seems that way)!t

It’s only the end of 2nd week, there is absolutly no reason you should be failing a class yet.

i dropped that class.

i dont thinkyou guys get it when i say “i dont understand”

it took me 5 hours to do 1 , 1 … and only 1 homework problem.

You should have given it some time.
Formulas will eventually come back to you.

i didnt learn them the first time around, i am much happier without that class. the only problem will be if they dont let me enter econ major.

Oh, you are switching majors?
Is that possible at this point?
I MIGHT consider switching majors, but it seems very unlikely.

i want to switch to just ECON, . i have no idea if its possible.
i emailed the econ advisor … peer advising told me that normally they do not allow it but to email them. … the only thing i have going for me is that ia m math/econ, interdepartmental, so i kind of already have one foot in the door, but the other in the math department.

You CAN change majors, my problem is that econ is impacted…

If they dont let me change majors, i have to change shcools… there is nothing else i can major in, and there is NO WAY i will finish this major.

Malishka,

You just transferred, right? If that’s the case, you can’t switch schools.

There are plenty of majors at UCLA.

what do u mean i cant switch schools if i just transfered?
no one is going to prevent me from going to the school i would go to.

there is absolutley nothing i am interested in at ucla aside from economics.
so if they do not let me major in economics i am leaving ucla. (and i would be going to baruch-cuny, complete downgrade, but i am not going to major in something i have no intrest in )

Malishka,

Most universities only accept JUNIOR transfers. Don’t get all uppity here and shoot the messenger.

However, think about this for a second. Economics is inherently VERY mathematical. You will need a good background of linear algebra, integrals, derivatives, and everything in between if you really want to be good at what you do. Don’t just throw your arms up two weeks into a math class. ASK FOR HELP. Throw away your pride and just ASK FOR HELP. If you can’t do it this quarter, do some review of basic concepts and go in next quarter ready for the gauntlet.

Don’t just give up because you can’t get in right away. You have plenty of time to get things straightened out, and it’s silly to give up on an opportunity as great as this just because of one bad class.

I doubt you would have failed anyway.

i have admission to baruch for spring anyways, it was a backup.

if i had all the time in the world to be at ucla then yes, i would have definatley not bothered and just stuck with it, because if i failed it i could have taken it over, thats not my case, i have to graduate asap.

this had nothing to do with pride or not asking for help. I did, just the background that was needed i didnt have.
In CC, it was calculator and open notes for every single cacl course i took, here its no calc no notes, i just simply do not remeber that much, and i do not have the chance to take calc 2 and 3 again, to learn the stuff to the extent that i need to.

And in terms of economics being very mathematical, i dont disagree, however the courses that i wanted to take for economics, and for my econ degree do not require as much math as i would need to take for the math/econ degree.
Also all the econ courses i needed to take have stats 100A as the last preq, which i can manage.

So if i have to end up changing majors to some complete bs like russian studies in order to graduate that would just be a waste of my time and money in my opinion and i would have had a better future then transfering out of UCLA to some sucky school as long as i could major in something i am intrested in.

I obviously can’t stop you. But I can offer some advice.

What econ do you want to do? Other than some macro theory, everything is math based.

Talk to people in the department. Talk to professors. Work things out. It sounds to me like you hit a wall and now you’re backing down. Don’t do that. Face this thing head on. You obviously have the ability, and you should take full advantage of it.

And remember, there ARE other majors that aren’t “BS” that will offer you a good foundation in similar areas. Look into political economy, for example.

I’m just saying don’t let this one hurdle stop you. Because you’ll never get far if you constantly let the challenges steer you off course.

So I can switch from a Political Science to a Bio major if I wanted to?

Early in the game…yes. Later in the game…no.

what political economy major?

It’s not a major, per se. But if you take the classes that are political economy based, you can definitely study it.
