What's with HGTV lately?

If you get on-line (Hulu) you can watch HGTV Design Stars (competition for being the host of your own show). It’s really fun to watch but I never could find it on TV.

I’m another one who doesn’t care for Holmes at all…or Property Brothers…or is it Kitchen Cousins or something like that???

Yes, I’d love a show that could be about re-motivating me to update some current rooms in my house - I’d love to move, but with the housing market, that’s not going to happen anytime soon - so would love to see exactly what EPTR says above - a little interest for a little money!

I’d like to see a show on taking a few thrift store finds and incorporating them into a current room - not from the junky flea market angle, but taking something older and truly getting it to fit in a more updated room.

This seasons Design Star just finished last week - I was please with the winner and her show idea about “shopping for design” sounds interesting, but not sure what the angle will be - the affordable or the exclusive.

Weirdly, just came across this in my twitter feed for anyone interested…a Design Star All-Stars that is on tonight!!! (not sure if this is a one episode show or what??)

I always used to enjoy Saturday nights on HGTV with the straight-up decorating shows. Now I don’t watch at all.

Same with Food Network. Funny someone mentioned it upthread. I loathe Cupcake Wars and watch much less Food Network than I used to. I do watch the Cooking Channel and also Create. Do you guys have Create? It’s fantastic.

so agree with this. HGTV was always my go-to station to veg out. Now with the revelation that House Hunters is completely staged, I won’t watch it and that seems to be all they have.

I’ve moved onto Food TV, but am getting sick of Guy Fieri and ‘triple D’.

Guess I will start my summer cleaning & purging…

Don’t know Create…tell us more about it!

I also LOVE Candice and would appreciate more design & decorating shows. What drives me crazy is when they flash a preview of the finished product at the beginning of the show. Hello…I would like to be surprised!

I think Nate Berkus would be a great addition to HGTV. His personality is fun.

You are singing my song! My favorite part of the week used to be Saturday morning to watch the ladies of the Food Network. And let me tell you, I made a lot of their recipes.

Here’s Create: [Create TV: Public Television’s top shows in Cooking, Travel, Home Improvement, Gardening and Arts & Crafts](http://www.createtv.com/)

They have chefs like Hubert Keller and John Besh and Lidia Bastianich. Great, great food shows. Also travel shows, P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home (who doesn’t love Allen?), Katie Brown’s Workshop. The only thing is that on the weekends they tend to run blocks of shows. Which is either a good or a bad thing. They did all London/UK travel this weekend, which was really fun in connection with the Olympics. This is now my go-to channel. Oh! and how could I forget Cook’s Country, which my all-time favorite cooking show? Also the best cookbook I’ve ever purchased in my life.

Another fun channel is WealthTV. Which has great shows like the documentaries about the Hapsbergs and Castles. There was a great show on the art of Hearst Castle and how it is preserved. Apparently, Hearst Castle has a lot of armor and it’s my D’s life dream to be a conservator of arms and armor.

I love Candice and Genevieve and David Bromstad too, though I liked his CA designs better than his Miami ones. I also think Vern Yip is a great designer.

I agree about some of the cooking shows. I guess a lot depends on personality.

I love Vern Yip and Candice!!! Loved Sarah’s Summer Home and hoping Sarah 101 will start here in the States this fall. Also liked Sabrina Soto’s show on recreating a less expensive alternative to the high end design. Man…I really do miss those shows!

I also love that design show where they brought in three designers and the home owners would pick their favorite design. It was fascinating to see how three different designers translated the, oh god, I’m actually going to say it…space.

I’ve heard that HGTV moved out of the design arena, and is concentrating on the house hunter type shows because it saves them money. When you think about it, they don’t have to invest any money in helping a couple buy a home, but they did put up money for the design shows.

I credit/blame HGTV with the difficulty in selling any home that doesn’t have granite countertops, SS applicances, hardwood floors throughout, and whatever else is the latest fad.

Designer’s Challenge I think it was called, FlyMeToTheMoon. I liked it too. And Sabrina Soto, both for her High Low show and the staging one.

Of course it costs them less $$ to do it the new way, but who’s going to watch it?

Another one (I think it’s hgtv) that I can’t stand is “Love It or Leave It”. The host and the constant bickering annoy me.

Love it or List It. They are beyond annoying.

The only House Hunters-type show that I enjoy now is Selling New York (or Selling London, which is on now). The channel has really deteriorated.

I love Sarah! Her taste is impeccable.

I admit to liking the show where the 2 brothers take a couple to their dream home, the couple experiences sticker shock, then look for a house to redo. The part I like is comparing the “dream” house to the 2 options the brothers come up with.

I know it is faked too, but I like to see what they can do with less $. Some of the houses they make over started as real dogs!

Adore Sarah’s decorating style.

I can’t watch that show. They are the most unpleasant hosts on TV.

I’m another fan of Sarah.

MereMom–Property Brothers–that’s the part I like about it too, and seeing what’s possible.

The thing about Property Brothers is that they are both easy on the eye.
