What's your favorite Christmas movie?

I always liked this one.

I also like the Christmas Carol versions

The Family Man with Nicolas Cage.

I hate to be boring, but It’s a Wonderful Life wins, hands down. :)

Musicamusica, thanks for the tip. Will check it out.

The old British Christmas Carol, with Alastair Sim.

Muppet Christmas Carol. It is my favorite version of the story.

A tree grows in Brooklyn :)

I love them all to be honest. It is such a family tradition to watch all the old Christmas movies and shows.

I especially love

  • A Christmas Story
    -Scrooged
    -White Christmas
    -Grinch
    -Frosty the Snowman
    -Rudolph
    -Twas the Night Before Christmas

There are so many! And it seems more get added to the list each year!

In our family, Christmas doesn’t really begin until we watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. (Waiting for our son to come home Saturday so we can all watch together.)

Favorites:
National Lampoon Christmas Vacation
A Christmas Carol, Alastair Sim
Magoo’s Christmas Carol
Miracle on 34th Street
The Santa Clause (s)

We watch It’s a Wonderful Life on New Year’s Eve. A Christmas Story is a guy story, so my H and S like it.

Like the ideas for Family Man. That is a good movie.

Rest of family likes Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, and Polar Express.

Meet Me in St. Louis.

I pretty much have it memorized. I chose an afternoon when no one is home, and I put it on while wrapping presents.

We watched Meet Me in St Louis the other night for the 5,894th time.
I am stymied as to why Judy wears a bubble wrap babushka in the “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” scene. :)_

Still the best Christmas song ever.

My list:
A Christmas Story
Christmas Vacation
Elf
Home Alone

My husband’s list: :frowning:
Scrooged
Bad Santa
Santa Claus conquers the Martians

For watching every year: It’s A Wonderful Life. Each time I notice something that I didn’t catch before. Like the end of the scene in the bank, the uncle puts his head down on his desk in despair. The squirrel comes over and puts its paw on his arm to console him! Scene fades.

Saw a marvelous movie last year: Joyeux Noel. Based on true events, it tells the story of the spontaneous Christmas Eve truce declared by Scottish, French, and German troops in the trenches of World War I. Actually affirms your belief in humanity, if only for a couple of hours.

Other favorites:

*Scrooge! *the Musical
Scrooged with Bill Murray-love Carol Kane’s “hard hitting” portrayal of the Ghost of Christmas Present
It’s a Wonderful Life
Charlie Brown special
Cartoon version of the Grinch

It Happened on Fifth Avenue.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I know it has nothing to do with Christmas per se, but for three years it defined the Christmas season as much as the trees and shopping mall Santas.

I miss that.

LasMa, I heartily second “The Bishop’s Wife.”

“White Christmas”. I think my family knows every line. We love it.

^^^Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow…

"It won’t be long before we’ll all be there with snow…

I want to wash my hands, my face, and hair with snow."

Forgot about that one. Love it!

So many it’s hard to decide. I would include: Love Actually, Elf, Miracle on 34th St., It’s A Wonderful Life, The Bishop’s Wife and Scrooge (the 1950 British version).

Oh, The Bishop’s Wife, definitely. It’s so tender and magical. Every nuance!
