“Comedian” Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a feckless 'word that is banned on CC". How long before her show is cancelled?
These comedians are just way over the line.

Shall we talk about tweets? It’s not just comedians who are “just way over the line”.
Bee’s comment isn’t racism.
Not racism. It’s sexist and extremely vulgar. Turner Broadcasting which broadcasts her show needs to step up like ABC did.
True. But it also isn’t funny. As a comedian, maybe she should be cancelled for that.
So is it only racist tweets that are over the line? Does it matter if we tear apart other women? Does it matter if we’re awful to Ivanka and say terrible things about her relationship with her father, or if someone tears apart Sarah Sanders? Or do they deserve it because they’re conservative? Which women matter and which don’t so I can keep it all straight.
Is this because Ivanka posted a sweet picture of her cuddling her son in the midst of various media reports about immigrant families being torn apart?
Have any prominent politicians is very high offices used the same kind of language publicly, while in office? Did the people calling for Samantha Bee to be fired for using that same language vote for any of those prominent politicians?
The world just seems awfully mean/nasty lately. People in media/entertainment taking sides vocally, and sometimes in a nasty way.
Reflective of society, or is society taking sides because of it? Who knows. I would imagine as long as they stay away from race, sexuality and gender issues, they will continue until their ratings say it is not “working”.
Jokes or tweets, or even commentary.
Ok went to look at reports. I agree it was poorly said, she detracted from the message by choosing that word. Instead of the story being about Ivanka’s poor choice in posting that picture, it becomes about the word Samantha Bee used.
If all shows that weren’t funny were pulled off the air, there sure wouldn’t be much on tv. Never been a fan of Bee’s show and style but there is plenty of crap on tv and plenty of vulgarity on cable stations.
Vulgar, very much so, but I don’t see how it is sexist.
If we are okay with this type of behavior from politicians than don’t cast stones at comedians. Yes, it is in poor taste, but I’ve lost my sense of outrage at vulgar words when we hear attacks from all corners. I do draw a distinction at racist language.
I don’t think that word is sexist, necessarily, but the part about how Ivanka could get the policy changed was… but then again that topic was opened by her father himself when he’s talked about how he would date her if she wasn’t his daughter.
I don’t think it’s a very widely viewed show. The calling for it to be shut down will get it more attention than it’s gotten before, I would think.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Odds are, it will be within the day if the topic drifts.
Personally, I was surprised that Samantha Bee knows the word “feckless.”
I don’t watch her but she is very popular:
As much tv as I watch, none of it is late night stuff. I’ve seen short clips of hers before, probably from Daily Show, on FB but never watched the whole show.
I don’t watch Bee either, but Ivanka is open to criticism and satire because she’s a senior advisor to the President just like John Kelly, Stephen Miller, etc. Ivanka also likes her pockets while taking a government salary.
I’m sorry but using a vulgar term for a part of the female anatomy is vile and sexist. If the broadcast networks are going to have any sort of standards vis-a-vis outrageous comments that offend a large part of their viewing audience, any ‘entertainer’ who uses such language needs to go. (Keeping the topic on TV and entertainment, not politicians). But if it’s wrong to call a former advisor to a president an ‘ape’ it’s certainly wrong to call one the c word.
She actually doesn’t take a salary but I agree that her position in the administration opens her to criticism and satire. And although she doesn’t take an official salary, there has been press as recently as this week on how she does benefit financially.
If you are trying to draw a comparison to Roseanne, Roseanne wasn’t let go because of vulgar language she uses. If that was the barometer, she would have been gone a long time ago.
She actually used THAT word? Seriously, we are going there on TV now? Sorry, that word is nuclear, so she should get ready for some backlash.
Her language was vulgar, offensive and racist against a former advisor to a president. So now a comedian uses vulgar, offensive and sexist language against a current advisor to a president. There should be no double standards.
I have zero feelings towards Bee one way or another. I just don’t watch her- mostly because I’d have to actively seek out her stuff and I’m just lazy.
That said, 2 things - 1 her words were neither sexist nor racist. Vulgar? Sure. If comedians weren’t allowed to be vulgar (see any time before ~70s), we wouldn’t have many left. 2- she was commenting on an action as opposed to an intrinsic characteristic (race, religion, etc). IMO, there is a HUGE difference between attacking something that someone DOES as opposed to things about themselves that they can’t change (ie race, appearance, etc).
