When do bridges, differels, and rejections hear back?

Rejected 3.9, 28 ACT, OOS, 11 AP class-rigor.

Much sadness at the house tonight. Dad whose alma mater said no and mom because #2 school is Unv Oklahoma.

Offer for Winter semester- meh.

@ccawealthofinfo @kaylamissy DD rejected 3.8 GPA 1200 sat…she immediately appealed to pre-business major. We had no idea that sports comm. was so difficult. She really wants to do sports management -already in a USC,JMU on that major. Waiting for VT, UVA and UGA where she applied regular decision to all. Lots of tears…but I applaud her moxey to immediately file an appeal and sent her teachers and counsellors emails to support her…I am ready to move on but obviously she isn’t

@lopeztlo7 , its crushing to be denial, waitlisted or even bridged. I find it as an insult for my daughter to get bridged but she’s considering it which I think is crazy. Good for your daughter to already start the appeal process because they will see that’s she’s serious and not ready to give up.

What were ur stats? @nduclaunc

Claire, I am not sure exactly what you want to know but here’s my breakdown:
GPA: 3.9 / 4.0 ** (see below)
ACT: 28
Rank: 35/285
OOS: Texas
Major: Pre Business
I also sent in my resúme to Clemson once I saw that it was an optional add on. Mainly because I see my strongest part of my application as my EC’s and essays, two things Clemson doesn’t consider. (I’ll spare listing those, as they don’t matter for Clemson admission anyways)
** I also made sure to note that my GPA has a MAJOR upward trend which I mentioned in my app. Freshman year I had no idea how to work the school system or take grades seriously… I made around a 3.6…sophomore year a 3.75… ever since then my GPA has averaged a 4.3 and a 4.4, for my junior year and first semester of senior year respectively. I think that, along with my resúme I sent helped me get in… also, all along I was very confident getting in here… which I realize maybe now was not such a guarantee as I thought in my head once I read this thread. Oh well, it worked out. Clemson is not my first or second choice but it is nice to have as an option, and to those stressing about their child, maybe Clemson just wasn’t for them. Maybe them getting rejected means it just wasn’t meant to be. I think the acceptances / rejections happen for a reason and transfer programs (with few exceptions) are slightly demeaning to the time put in to school and individual talents each of your children possess.
Respectfully my opinion.

Hi thank you so much! I have very similar stats and I’m waiting to hear out of state:) @nduclaunc

I have some more questions is there away to contact you outside of this thread?? @nduclaunc

I think there is a way to message me through cc.

I am very disappointed in our high school recommendation of rigor over GPA. He took 2 on level classes in three years including 11 APs and had a 3.9. Our younger daughter may take on level with some AP classes to slightly boost rigor. Also, if Clemson takes 8 months to look at an app then they should take into account jobs, extra curriculars, and that type stuff. Sorry! mom needs to vent after seeing kid that has worked his butt off in the top school system in GA get his heart broken.

^^ Just wondered , is the 3.9 his weighted GPA with the 11 AP classes or unweighted and was his rank in the top 10 percent? I think rank is really important to Clemson. I’m just gathering info for my junior son so I know where he stands. Sorry for your son ! It’s so difficult when you know how hard they worked !

@gaggk17 I agree completely with you. My DD’s high school does not rank so she is at a disadvantage to begin with. Also, the “well-rounded” kid that can handle advanced courses, AP and honors and still have great EC’s is more valuable in my opinion. I think UGA and UVA are very good at recognizing that!

@gaggk17 and @lopeztlo7 First let me say, I am very sorry that your children were not accepted at Clemson. It is very hard as a parent to see our children hurting , and feel helpless in making them feel better. That said , the type of student that has applied to Clemson over the past few years are well rounded students with great ECs , volunteer hours , leadership, GPAs and test scores . It is not right to assume that had your students been evaluated on their ECs, jobs etc that the outcome would’ve been any different. There were hundreds, if not thousands of instate students with stats equivalent of even higher that were also waitlisted, bridged or deferred . How disappointed do you think that they are knowing they were also edged out ? The reality of the situation is there is not space for everyone . Also, Clemson does not have rolling admissions @gaggk17 . It clearly states notification happens in Feb on their website . Acceptances occur in relationship to other applicants. Our students are not evaluated on their own merits , they are looked at and compared to other applicants. Many may think that is unfair , but that’s the reality of college admissions, not just at Clemson , but everywhere.

@carolinamom2boys Again, that is very well said and explained. We found Clemson to be straight forward when admission was explained. GPA, test scores, class rigor and class rank matter as a whole and specifically within majors. We were advised to have our two choices of majors be in different colleges if possible so there was different set of evaluators. We were told to be strategic about selecting a major if we were concerned about our stats. Also @NJMOM3, admissions and the departments are very helpful when you call with questions about majors etc.

@carolinamom2boys @Baxter126 while I appreciate your explanations I still feel that UGA and UVA do a much better job of looking at the entire package with regards to admissions. That is just my opinion as the above opinions are just yours:) We visited Clemson and unfortunately were not guided in the same way that @Baxter126 was. Luck of the draw. My daughter has many great options and I am ready for her to move on, but alas she is committed to an appeal. Let the chips fall as the may.

@lopeztlo7 you are right that your opinion is certainly as valid as anyone else’s , but short of seeing the applications of all schools involved and all applicants involved it is hard to determine who does a better job and what they actually look for.

@lopeztlo7 All the best to your daughter. All the information I shared didn’t come from one tour and wasn’t my opinion. It came from calls to departments and admissions that my students made. It wasn’t luck of the draw at all. It was a lot of research. We asked a lot of questions prior to applying. Application processes all over the country are different. I can’t really say if they are “better”, but perhaps the process at certain schools are better suited to a specific type of student. For example, Furman University doesn’t require standardized test scores at all. If I had a child who was a poor test taker but could shine by submitting a portfolio of work as they ask for, that would be a great place for them to apply.

Also, our high school doesn’t rank either, but we were told that they will tell schools where you stand in the class. So technically every school ranks, but many like ours just don’t reveal it to the students. When we asked, were assured by Clemson that our school not ranking students was no disadvantage.

Finally, the students I know who have been accepted at Clemson are all very well-rounded with total package applications so somehow, Clemson does recognize that.

Thanks for the discussion. I appreciate it as I prepare my high school junior for her college process next year.

@ Baxter126 …you are right , I think I will email the individual depts / admissions. I knew what d needed a few yrs ago for nursing and now I need to do some research since my son will be looking at totally different majors and is applying 2 yrs after d did.

^^ or better yet have him do the emailing !!
