I also have been trouble finding Crest’s Whitening Expressions - but cinnamon flavor - in the stand up container. I have gotten the regular tube, but it’s not the same. I’m another one that just doesn’t like mint toothpaste.
I had bought a 3 pack of New Balance low cut socks a few years ago and they are the perfect socks…but I’ve never been able to find them again.
I bought Chinese mustard flavored wonton type chips at Trader Joes one time and they were delicious. Never saw them again; I think they went the same way as the steak sauce they used to sell that we all liked.
Re: Costco: Many of you may know this already, but when you look at the price tag of the items mounted on the shelf, if you see an asterisk (*) it means they are not re-stocking that particular item. So if it’s something you love and you see that asterisk, stock up!

OP again. I’m astonished at how many of you are also missing the vanilla mint toothpaste! I’m going to write to Crest and send them a link to this thread–if that many people on a random website–it’s CC for heaven’s sake., not PTPA ( Picky Toothpaste Purchasers of America), there must be enough of us in the US to justify selling the stuff, at least online. And thanks for the tip on the strawberry banana toothpaste, but I’ll take a pass on that (shudder).

One of the above posts reminded me that I’m working my way through a stockpile of my favorite K-cup, now discontinued–Green Mountain French Roast Decaf. And D agrees that the replacement for the albuterol inhaler is terrible–but at least there was a scientific reason for that change (valid or not). I guess I should be glad that finding jeans in very small sizes is not, and has never been, a problem for me!

This is a constant problem in my household. Favorite Kellogg’s Oat Bran cereal that I ate every morning for over a dozen years - gone. Any bra my daughter or I decide fits either of use perfectly - gone. Whatever shampoo makes our hair look perfect - gone. Forget jeans, any jeans you like is immediately discontinued the next time you go look for them. Favorite deodorant I used for twenty years - gone. Thomas’ Date Nut bread from my youth - first only available for the holidays - now gone. (To the earlier poster - my daughter who also dislikes mint - will be packing Tom’s silly strawberry toothpaste when she goes off to college in the fall - I don’t think she has ever brushed her teeth with anything else!).

wrldtravelr, I don’t know if these are as good as the pickles you got at Trader Joe’s but Consumer Reports just rated pickles and found the store brand ones, 365 kosher dill, from Whole Foods, was the top rated pickle. That impressed me so I picked up a jar and they are good. We tend to like them a little more dilly and garlicky I think, but they were crisp and tasty.

LOL - In 1984, per MIL advise we picked a standard Sherwin Williams exterior paint color (Peace Yellow) to avoid future match problems. In 1985 they dropped the color, so we had to custom match it anyway.

I have been a fan of SAS “whisper” tie shoes ever since recovering from a minor foot problem. I was bummed when navy color was discontinued. Now all colors have been discontinued. So I buy them near-new on ebay. After using a black pair a lot on the last vacation, I decided to buy an extra pair for future.

roshke: if you’re trying to finish a china set (or crystal or flatware for that matter) try eBay. I’d been looking to finish my sets and replacements . com was ridiculous. I searched for my patterns, put an auto reminder for the search on my eBay account and ended up getting almost all my pieces in an estate sale listing for the price of 1 setting on replacements . com.

M2CK: DH was at Costco today and I had him double check. There is tomato basil soup in TN :)

Because of this thread I remembered 2 cookies that I haven’t been able to find for years. One was a type of the “Sandies” cookies by Keebler but they were a chocolate/vanilla swirl; lovely with a cup of tea. The other one is Keebler Vanilla Sugar Wafers. I can occasionally find the mini packs in a random gas station or truck stop and they’re listed on the Sams & Costco websites but I never see them in the store. They’re not on Keebler’s website either.

I also remembered Cape Cod Dark Russet Potato Chips…sigh.

What was your pattern, roshke? Maybe someone here has it and is willing to part with it. I have 3 sets at the moment…

kathiep-Thanks for the pickle recommendation. The Trader Joe’s pickles were garlic dills, so that sounds perfect. Unfortunately, no Whole Foods here so when I go to Chicago this summer I will have to bring back a few jars.

This happens to me all the time. I now have stockpiles of many different items including favorite shoes, bras and undies because they are constantly discontinuing items I love.

IMO, this occurs because there is a constant ‘push’ to bring new products to market, therefore, they have to discontinue something or we would be tripling the size of our stores. I just don’t know why it has to be my favorite items. :)

For inhalers, we use prescription Xopenex. It was recommended by our allergist because it makes your heart race less than most other inhalers.

For Costco undies, we still have Itsy-Bitsy here which are all cotton. Although the last time I looked, they only had boring colors in my size. Now I’m worried.

OMG, I can’t believe this thread. This is my life. (One of my D’s actually drew a cartoon strip of me in mourning over lost products–store managers must spy on me to see what I buy and then discontinue the items just to upset me. . .)
I’ve been buying the same running shoes for years. Last week I went to get a new pair–discontinued. Only bra that ever really fit?–they haven’t made it for years.
I was addicted to WalMart’s cranberry-pomegranate instant oatmeal. It was SO popular. Gone. (This was over a year ago and I still miss it.)
First world problems, I know. I guess this is just part of getting older, but change is hard.

Okay folks, I need your help. About 6 months ago, I discovered the most delightful “quick fix” when I needed a little boost. I’m diabetic, and when this happens and I’m home, I eat some kind of fruit or drink some fruit juice. But I need something portable for all those times when my blood sugars are dropping, I need to eat something, and I’m not near a fridge. While fruit is a good choice, it’s not always convenient to carry fruit. (Think trying to keep strawberries or even a banana as an “as-needed” emergency? Smushed!) But I found the perfect item!! It was called “Simply” Fruit Roll-Ups. Now, you might think fruit roll-ups could be an adequate substitute, but regular fruit roll ups are LOADED with sugar, which wrecks advoc to my blood sugar control, and they do not contain fruit.

These gems are/were made by Betty Crockers and sold right next to those sugar-sweet “fake” fruit roll ups. But my grocery store stopped carrying them. Probably because they were actually healthy! I’m back to carrying bags of fruit: sometimes needed, sometimes not. Anyone see them near you?

Momlive, like you I have started buying an extra or stockpiling things I like (shirts, an extra “Rocket” blender in case my beloved Rocket takes a powder some day due to daily use, even shoes). I had a pair of New Balance hiking shoes I bought several years ago that have finally worn out… New Balance seems to be out of the business now. For two years in a row I have visited REI a couple of times a year to try on all their other hiking shoes, and can’t find one I like now. :(

Also… has anyone noticed that Dannon fruit on the bottom yogurts have been mostly discontinued? Our grocery only carries raspberry now. As this is a staple food for picky eater D2 (fortunately raspberry is the only flavor she will eat!), I am worried that soon the raspberry will also be gone. No way to stockpile that one.

I will say that some things that stick around surprise me. I have had my vacuum cleaner for almost 30 years, and can still get bags for it. I keep thinking I won’t be able to… but so far no problem.

I also loved vanilla toothpaste. I found a Lavoris vanilla toothpaste and bought ten tubes…it was at a place that carries discontinued items!

I really don’t like mint (except in girl scout cookies)…so i also miss that cinnamon Lavoris mouthwash.

I’ve tried lots of Toms flavors…I think they are awful.

“IMO, this occurs because there is a constant ‘push’ to bring new products to market, therefore, they have to discontinue something or we would be tripling the size of our stores. I just don’t know why it has to be my favorite items” - What she said!

Lima - Would “gu” (energy gel) packets work? My family carries them for mountain biking. DD will probably take on on her 10K race tomorrow. You can buy them at bike shops and perhaps REI. Perhaps they are wrong for your purpose (may be mostly sugar). Here is a link with examples - [Energy Gels Cycling Products - WesternBikeworks](http://www.westernbikeworks.com/search/energy-gels)

I wonder if anyone has heard of the original Gripe Water, specifically Woodwards gripe water. I don’t know if it was ever marketed in the US, but when I was a pre-teen, I was the main consumer of my nephew’s supply. While I didn’t know what alcohol tasted like at that time, I bet it did, even though it was aimed at very young babies.

For “healthy” things, I’d suggest trying the local health food stores, seriously. They may carry fruit roll ups that aren’t loaded with tons of fruit (just read the label carefully).

My D’s diabetic friend also carried some special candy that she could pop into her mouth and help when her sugar got a bit low–it tasted OK as she had D & me try it.

How about dried fruit that has no additives or perservatives or sugar added? Would that work?

Oh…I got Hansen diet sodas…at Costco flavors were cream soda, black cherry and some others…in cans…last summer. They were delicious but they are not there any more!

The person who posted about the paint reminded me that a few years ago Benjamin Moore had the bright idea of redoing all of their colors, so you could no longer match anything you had without getting a custom match - so much for having saved all those paint swatches with the numbers on them!
