My d is planning a visit to a LAC. She is coming at the invitation of an athletic coach for an overnight with a team member. She wants to see practice and attend a class. It is a long flight, followed by an hour to the campus. She’ll get there early afternoon, my question is, how to schedule her flight home the next day. I want her to see what’s she needs to without being there too long. I don’t want to over think this, but how long do they need to hang around the second day?

When my D went last year for an overnight on her own to a college she actually stayed for two nights since she was going from the west coast to the east coast.

Will you D see the practice the day she arrives or will it be the next day? Which day will she sit in on a class?

quilll, my dau had good experiences flying out the afternoon of that second day. She felt she got a sufficient taste to make a decision by packing a lot into the arrival day afternoon, overnight and next day through lunch. She noted it was also a good balance for both parties–the college kids had fun showing the “prospie” around but needed to return to the demands of their lives, and she got what she wanted from a visit without doing more than two days’ damage to her HS work/EC load.

Hope your daughter has a terrific visit!

My d made three overnight visits in association with checking out an athletic team - I think your daughter should plan to get a flight out early to mid-afternoon.

This would give her time to observe a morning practice (as applicable), visit a class, follow up with the coach and have lunch (perhaps with team members).

Get an mid to late afternoon flight. You don’t want to rush the visit, especially with an hour car ride to the airport.

So you don’t think she’ll be overstaying if she has a 5:30 ish flight–that would give her about 24 hours on campus, which seems like a long time to me.

Thanks everyone for your answers.
