When to register for classes and housing

If I don’t go to an orientation, when do i register for classes? and when is the latest that i should sign up for housing? entering freshmen btw, still not sure if im going to asu either.

Its only $75 deposit on housing, so even if you’re not sure you want to go to ASU, I would send it in. As for registering for classes, well, current students at ASU don’t do that until Late February/Early March. I’m not sure how you would go about doing it since you’re required to meet with an advisor prior to registering as a Freshman.

also, im in the polytechnic campus and want to go to the main campus, so im assuming i can’t sign up for main campus housing?

I strongly recommend making the housing deposit, even if you have to forfeit the $75.00. It is worth it to reserve the housing you want in the event you go there. As for orientation, where do you live? ASU holds half-day regional orientations all over the country, or you can go to one on campus as late as August, I believe. You can’t register without seeing an advisor, but the process is very quick and efficient and is done at orientation. My daughter attended an orientation in southern California and registered that day.

There is info for off-campus orientation.
Housing fills up SUPER fast, faster than what you may think. I think applying, by or before, Frebruary may reserve you a spot.

yeah i signed up for housing the day after i got my acceptance letter…just because i heard it fills up fast. plus im going to the pre-orientation thing near my hometown sometime in february and i have already signed up to go to orientation on march 16th. its all coming soo fast but im very excited  its kind of weird thinking im going to pick out my classes for next year soo soon when school starts in august. lol

Whoa! I signed up for March 16th too! Maybe ill see you there, although there’s probably going to hundreds of people there!

Stinks that you’re out of state, I have around 4 friends that are coming with me and going to ASU next fall. What are you majoring in? Are you in the honors college? You get split up by major when youre there.

The thing is, im still applying to the honors college and have been accepted to a campus other than what i want.

So is it necessary to go to orientation? And can i apply for housing on the main campus if ive been accepted to the polytechnic campus? i want to change my major but i cant do it over the phone.

5.0 Mustang. Set some time aside to call ASU and stay on the phone until you speak with someone (perhaps several people) who can help you. I have found that ASU is very responsive and helpful if you can just get to the right department or person.

First, with respect to your major, do whatever you are told to do to change it. They probably want it in writing.

As for campus, it may be that your major is only offered on the Polytechnic Campus. Find out. If it is offered on the Tempe campus, let them know that that is where you want to be.

Your housing questions can be answered by residence life.

In any case, often the first person with whom you are connected is a student and he or she may not know the real answer to your questions. Simply ask to speak to his or her supervisor. You are entitled to speak with someone who can direct you and help solve your problem. Good luck.

Or email! Ive emailed both the admissions and financial aid offices with questions and they got back to me within a day or two.

And you should really apply to the honors college within the next couple weeks. After that, even though how great your credentials are, it gets really tough to get in.

i agree. ive emailed the representative from my area for ASU and called the ASU offices many times and they were really helpful with all my questions.

haha wow what a coincidence! it was hard to get tickets to fly down to ASU for orientation because of spring training. but luckily we had some free ones…So if your OOS beware, tickets are expensive for this time of year.

my major is biochemistry (medicial chem)-tempe campus. and no i didnt apply to the honors college because i didnt think i could get in

^^ wow, biochemistry…nice! Well, we’ll probably be split up into separate groups, and I really don’t want to admit to my friends that I spend half my time on this forum, yikes!

Anyways, I DID NOT think I could get into the honors college, at all, like never ever ever. One of my good guy friends with the same stats (better SAT’s) didn’t get in. I was so worried, but I got in. Best letter ever!

ill try a different number this time. I was on the phone for about 45 minutes yesterday. couldn’t get my major changed and they couldn’t help with registering questions.

wow, i just explained my entire situation to the regional guy in an email and i get an impersonal response telling me how to withdraw from classes. wth

wait, that email may just have been dispatched to all students.

That’s odd about the phone call. Everytime I’ve called, they’ve been really helpful.

I had a problem with my honors college application, and called them and left a message, and they called me back within an hour.
I had questions about the Disability Services (type 1 diabetic), and they answered all our questions.

I would suggest calling the polytechnic campus, which may help you more with switching your major.

Call admissions and tell them you want to change your major. When my son applied last year, he applied as “undeclared” but knew he wanted to go into some type of business program. We visited the campus and, after listening to the business college presentation, he decided to change his major to Accountancy. We went to the admissions office, where he told them he wanted to change his major. The woman put the “request” into the computer and told him to check his student profile on line in a few days to see if it had been changed. A few days later, his new major was listed.

As far as registering for classes, you are required to attend orientation. See if there’s one in your area. We’re from Northern California and were able to go to one within an hour of our house. Since we had already visited the campus, it was nice to be able to register for classes close to home.

Good luck.

The regional guy helped me through an email. thanks for the help
