Where are my hockey people?

Wings went to 9 tonight. It’s honestly just painful to watch.

I hate shootouts. My Sharks have done fairly well on them over the years, but they’re still stupid. Let the game end in a tie.

** The Sharks are the only Western Conference team the Edmonton Oilers have beaten, grr. When I heard before the Sharks/Oil game that the Oilers hadn’t beaten any Western teams, my heart sunk. I knew that Dr. Shark was soon going to pay them a visit.

CF- I agree with you. How do you feel about one OT? Or just end in regulation and no OT?

What do you do for playoff games?

These are things that sports radio heads have been babbling about for a few days so I want to see what “average” people think.

Overtime is fine, but regular season games should end after one overtime. I remember when there used to be tie games. It was fine. There was no problem.

For playoff games, OF COURSE many many overtimes. That’s my favorite part of the playoffs when my favorite team is not involved. That’s one thing that makes the playoffs fun. Having a shootout in the playoffs is a horrible, terrible idea. No skills competitions in the playoffs, that’s for the All Star game.

I agree with you 100%!

I’ve been to two triple overtime playoff games with the Wings. Once in 97 when I was 6 (I fell asleep at the game) and once in 09 when I was a senior in high school. It was in the middle of finals weeks and it was a terrible terrible decision. I had a 30 page English paper due the next day. Don’t remember what I got on the paper, but I remember the thrill of the game!

I don’t like the shootout either. I don’t think you’ll find too many longtime fans who like it. Owners will not agree to extend the five minute OT, though, so unless they return to allowing games to end in a tie, I doubt that it will change.

Playoffs should always be, and likely always will be, played in a sudden death format.

Why did it switch over to the shootout format?

Because, supposedly, people don’t like ties and they find the shootout exciting. That was the justification.

Ah… of course…

8-|

One of the many contributions made by the beloved Bettman.

I watched the 20 round shootout the other night – exciting and heartbreaking, but I would rather see one five minute OT period with sudden death for the regular season and 20 minute sudden death OT periods in the playoffs. 4 on 4 in the first playoff OT, 3 on 3 in subsequent ones.

That Ovi goal was filthy. Did you see him scoot the puck through his legs on the way to the goal?

My dad is an Anaheim Ducks fan and he’s pretty happy! I got him a Ducks thin rain jacket for Christmas.

My Rangers have won 6 in a row, let’s hope they keep this up! Hail Henrik & Cam

Anyone watching the World Juniors? This afternoon at 4 is the Canada/U.S. game. The staff from both Edmonton and Carolina are in town to see what McDavid and Eichel are doing. I’m hoping for a good game. There have been some great ones so far in the tournament.

Winter Classic is tomorrow… should be a good day in DC. Sunny and ~40 degrees.

When they announced the game would be here I just “knew” it would be 55 and rainy… so glad it will be good hockey weather.

Are you going to the game, soccerguy? Several of my family members went to the game in Michigan last year. No way I was sitting outside in that weather! They had a ball, though. We saw 2014 out watching the Canadian juniors beat the U.S. and then the Leafs beating the Bruins in a shootout. That was fun!

Tickets for the Winter Classic have been running $250+ (190 for SRO). This am they were mid-300s on Stubhub. S2 really wanted to go, but no way am I spending that kind of $$, and he doesn’t have it himself. The weather is gorgeous, but having been to Nats games, I’m not sure I’d want to sit so far away from the action.

Definitely did not go to the game… watched on tv though!

Most of the seats in baseball stadiums are terrible for hockey, and they tickets were super expensive. I have a very nice 60" HD TV which gets a lot of use, haha.

^^^and I’m guessing you don’t have that TV out on the balcony, and that you’re not paying $9 for a can of beer!

That was how I felt last year, soccerguy, when my Ds and their significant others went in Michigan but they had a great time and were part of the ‘event’ which seems to be why most people go. The game itself is the highlight of all kinds of other activities going on at the park. The game yesterday was an exciting one and lots of fun for the Caps’ fans with that ending! I felt for Patrick Sharp who had a spectacular game and 10 shots. I think they need to choose other teams, though, in the future for the official game. Too many of the same teams have played more than once.
