where can i get in?

Hi, would someone be able to tell me where i can apply for with the scores, and extracurriculars i have done and am still doing?

ACT: 20
GPA: 3.0

I have been involved in Student council since middle school, and have participated in international volunteer programs. Also, i have been consistently apart of my schools sports program since middle school; track, basketball, and volleyball. I have been doing cultural dances throughout high school. I work/volunteer at two places, one being a restaurant, and the other being a shop. I have been in fashion shows to raise money for causes, I’m an active student ambassador and teachers aid.

Any help would be nice

what’s your ethnicity?

Im 85% North Indian, 5% British, 2% American, and 8 % South African

Home State? How much can your parents afford? No EC’s from middle school count on college applications.

There are plenty of schools that will admit you.

But for a more reasonable list, could you give us some info?

  • Home state
  • Any idea of your major?
  • Ballpark financial constraints?

In the meantime, go to collegetoolkit… You can search by state, and then by difficulty of admission. Start with “low” admission difficulty, and take a look at some of the schools. You can find average GPA/ SAT scores there to start building a list. (Oh, and they also give you a ballpark idea of finances there.) It’s a great place to start.

Some examples in the Northeast:
-Anna Maria and Becker, both in MA

  • Post in CT
  • D’Youville College in NY

@Amy00000007, Are you an international student or a US citizen?

Im a US citizen. I would really like to apply to Depaul University, i know it may be a bit of a home stretch, but what do they look at?

Also, i would like to apply for Elementary Education

^^^Research it but your best bet for Early Ed is usually a state school in the state you intend to work in. It will be easier to get student teaching experience and qualify for teaching certificates. If you find a school with a +1 year Masters program, do that and enjoy more job offers in the future. In VA, JMU offers it.

There’s actually a lot of schools that fit your current requirements. Do you have any preferences in terms of location, size, and student body?

hi there, I have no specific preference. Perhaps either Boston/New York, Florida, California, Washington, and Oregon would be nice. Size i would say mid sized, maybe 5-10,000 but that would be my least of concerns. Thank you for all your help so far!

OK, since you mentioned NY:

The son of a friend wants Secondary Math Education, but tests horribly. Here’s a list I put together for him… most probably have Elementary Ed as well. All are within 4 hours of our Long Island home. He wants a small school, so most are smaller than you mentioned. All accept ballpark 50-75% of the applicants. It may give you a starting place.

Or, plan B, use the College Match feature on this site!!

But as long as you’re going for education, you may want to take a look at certification reciprocity with you home state, or wherever you see yourself living after graduation. Each state has its own requirements for teacher certification. Some states will happily accept the certification of another state, some make it a bit more difficult. You can find the info on each state’s Board of Education website, under “teacher certification.” Or google “states offering teacher reciprocity with ____” or something close.

                                                                                    cost (K) size

ETA-- sorry, I just spent 10 minutes formatting this table so nicely, but the computer ate it up. The first number is ballpark cost, the second is student body size.

Somewhere on CC is a thread suggesting “A schools for B students”, many belong to the Colleges That Change Lives group. They may be worth exploring.

Post #3 is very important for informed recommendations.

Is it just me, or is anyone else not sure what ethnicity North Indian refers to? If it refers to the northern part of India, that area seems to be, itself, quite culturally diverse.

Pending more information from the OP, I thought @bjkmom’s response was really helpful. As an example of another college that may fit you, try Andrew’s University in Michigan.

Here are some results I got from SuperMatch:
Barry University
College of New Rochelle
Fresno Pacific University
CUNY Lehman
Bridgewater State University
Fresno Pacific University
LIU Post
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

You still haven’t really told us about your financial constraints. That’s probably not something you feel like talking about, but it’s an important part of this. You don’t want to get attached to a school that you can’t go to because they don’t give good aid. So if you have any idea of how much your parents can pay per year, please let us know. If not, you should probably have that conversation with them soon.

Andrews!

If it can add to anything, i would like a culturally diverse university. I know this would be a lot harder for me to get into, or it would narrow my choices or options. Thank you!

Check out the Teacher Academy in the CUNY system. It’s offered at 7 CUNY schools (Brooklyn College, Hunter College, College of Staten Island, Lehman College, etc) and guarantees a full tuition scholarship if you sign a contract that you will teach in the NYC public school system for at least 2 years after you become certified.

Thank you, i will look into it! also, are there any California schools?
