I didn’t overpluck when younger, but I have seriously thinning eyebrows. I use brow powder or pencils to fill them in, but I’ve been looking into other ideas (Latisse, microblading, minoxidil). Any personal experience with something that works?
It can be a sign of thyroid issues. I’ve found that some of the new brow products that go on like mascara can help make the most of what you’ve got, and look more natural. I like Covergirl Easy Breezy Brow.
One of the ugly realities of aging is that it tends to cause less hair where you want it and more where you don’t.
Older guys seem to have the opposite issue re: eyebrows. They get the big, bushy caterpillar eyebrows. The stylist who cuts my husband’s hair has taken to trimming his eyebrows as well.
I have not used this but have heard some really great things. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/revitalash-revitabrow-advanced-eyebrow-conditioner/3222999?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBeauty%2FMakeup%2FEyebrows&color=none
But I hear you, my eyebrows are disappearing also.
I’m laughing. No really. I told my daughter I now have Bert Lahr, the Cowardly Lion eyebrows --basically just tufts HA! Confirming that, the first thing the makeup consultant did when she assessed me for my daughter’s wedding was to plaster those babies on – like couldn’t wait! Poor DH – he didn’t understand when I told him and asked “Did she use glue?”
I find getting old pretty liberating – I don’t care as much anymore:)
@doschicos – I’ve heard ears are up for trimming too:)
^ the one referenced above on the Nordstrom site “helps defend eyebrows from daily aggressors.” LOL
I always had full dark eyebrows, but have really noticed the thinning at the ends the past few years. I now use brow powder to help define and fill in. What a pain. Never in my life did I think I’d be doing that to my brows. My eyelashes have really thinned out, too. Awhile back I started using castor oil every night on my lashes and I think it helped. I stopped and it seems they thinned again. I’ve started this regime again. It just seems like it’s patch, patch, patch.
Oooh, have your thyroid checked. And then get bangs…
My brows are still dark and full. I hate them. I want them to match my thinning, graying frizzy hair.
My brows are OK, but my lashes are definitely thinner than they used to be.
You can always get transplants lol. Megan Good the actress had hers done last year.
My brows are also thinning. Actually, I think the hairs are migrating to my chin.
My hubby now gets ear hair. I think the stuff on the top of his head is being forced down into the ear canal by gravity.
Ah, aging is not for the wimpy.
So a year ago I decided to get serious about taking off some weight and getting more fit, this time trying to avoid the sports injuries that have plagued me for several years. Knowing that carrying extra weight made them more likely was a bit of a catch-22. But I started trail running in our local arboretum 2-3 days a week. I started slowly, and didn’t overdo it. I only run on the flat parts and some of the downhills. I never run a single step on pavement. I now have a 40 minute workout that is about half running, and have gone a whole year with no injuries. I try to walk 45 minutes on the off days. Made a few minor diet changes, and have lost 20 lbs. (Yay!). My weight, pulse, and blood pressure are great.
Before I started this, I’d had some abnormal thyroid readings. Tried meds, but I was allergic to one, and the symptoms weren’t THAT bad, so I stopped the meds. But my eyebrows were really thinning out.
I’ve noticed recently that my eyebrows seem to be back! I’m wondering if the exercise has improved my thyroid function, and in turn it has improved my “eyebrow health”. Just another thing to think about.
I am getting white hairs in my eyebrows. Am I supposed to dye them with the rest of my hair (so far I am just plucking them out)?
When I used to dye my hair, I dyed my eyebrows at the same time. Just spread a little on with a cotton swab and leave on 5 or 10 minutes. Now that I’ve quit dyeing my hair, my eyebrows are getting lighter and lighter and they don’t really make a brow color for my hair color. Luckily, I have bangs so eyebrows are not that noticeable.
Dont use hair dye on eyebrows. There are warnings. But my facial gal has a safe dye she uses on eyebrows. Lasts about 3 weeks. Start a little lighter than you were in your prime.
My hairdresser is determined to color my eyebrows every time she colors my hair. I really don’t care and have told her not to bother but she always ends up doing it. The color does not seem to hold long anyway. They are definitely much thinner than they used to be.
I used to have sort of Brooke Shields in her prime eyebrows and I hated them. Now they are, IMHO, normal looking. I am getting the hairs on my chinny chin chin and my upper lip, to to speak, and I pluck or shave as my mood strikes me. I really want to get electrolysis but I am scared. Things could be worse, my poor D is only 26 and already has the beginnings of the 'stache. I tell her to blame her dad because I did not have it until I hit menopause. D does electrolysis and loves it. OTOH, I am almost 60 and have very little gray.
I would be completely white i think if i didn’t color by hair. My Mum’s was actually a very pretty white So hoping mine will be the same when the time comes to grow it out - not quite ready. I hate the chin hairs - ugh! A couple of them are so hard and wiry they actually hurt when they grow. Maybe I need to try electrolysis. Is it permanent?
I used to have a unibrow in my youth :). How things change.
I am not sure if electrolysis is permanent. I know one of my aunts had it years ago and it was but you had to have a number of treatments to the same area first. Now, I think it’s laser. I will ask my D about it.
