where did your daughter find her comforter?

My daughter leaves in a matter of days for the summer and will return just days before we leave to move her in to college. She’s trying to pick her comforter (doesn’t want a duvet) before she leaves…we’ve checked out the local Macys and BBB and she’s looked online (also Macys, BBB and Amazon too) along with PB Teen but she hasn’t found ‘it’ yet. Where did your daughter find the comforter she took to school freshman year?

Urban Outfitters. She ordered it online and had it shipped to her college. It was waiting for her when she arrived.

I bought down throws ( it was cheaper than buying a comforter & she could use them when studying when chilly) from costco for oldest ( we were really also very pinched for money).
Youngest got one from ikea.
I thought a comforter & duvet were the same thing
( we use a cover what ever it is called & in the summer we just use the cover with a light quilt)

Actually, PB teen, but I made duvet myself from flat sheet + white flat sheet…now 4 years later…requiremnts are raised for bedding to start at Med. School. BBB all the way, no hand made duvet, spent a fortune in addition to new forniture. D. likes down comforters, they all need duvets.

Oh, no, duvet is a comforter COVER, not a comforter, they are sold separately at BBB.

Linens and Things online- she hasn’t taken it yet, though.

I did make a duvet cover for Ds bed ( when she was young)out of sheets I had from when I was child-& a flannel coordinating sheet- even used piping to snazz it up.

But I donated my sewing machine to a school in Africa, since I rarely used it & haven’t bought another. ( but considering the prices for some of the covers- it might be worth it!)

I have also bought bedding from

[Bedding: We’re All About Comfort | The Company Store](http://www.thecompanystore.com/)

Both of our D’s got the covers that they used on their dorm beds from an artisan’s market in Mexico!!! (They were assured that no one else would likely have theirs!!!)

One of D’s freshman roommates had a comforter cover made from old T-shirts from her closet…it was pretty cool…

We just got my daughter a new comforter set from BB&B. They had a bunch of last year’s sets clearanced. They were in the process of getting the new sets for this year out. You might also want to look at Kohl’s and Target. They had some cute comforters.

My daughter found a bright Tommy Hilfiger comforter (not a duvet) in the Sommerville pattern at Macys last year. It washed up very nicely. We found some matching lime green solid sheets at BB&B.
[Search Results - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/search/index.ognc?SearchTarget=*&Keyword=sommerville&KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON.x=9&KEYWORD_GO_BUTTON.y=14)

She took a lightweight lap blanket, too. Nice for snuggling on a cold winter day and also good for days where she just fell asleep on top of her comforter.

Linens N Things. She was very price conscious and picked something I thought was awful — college bed in a bag. I prevailed upon her to spend more and she went through four years with the same comforter. If was Liz Clairborne.

Same scenario with DS. Ended up the Ralph Lauren. Graduating on Sunday. Same comforter is still on his bed.

I am a student, but thought I’d answer - and, surprisingly, the answer is Target! My mom had offered to buy me a nicer PB Teen one for college, but I found one I really liked by chance at Target, and, frankly, I’m glad I didn’t spring for anything nicer. At college, things are more likely to get spilled on it, the washing machines can do strange things to it, it’s the x-long twin size, etc. Ultimately, quite happy with my choice.

My D, who is known for her exquisite taste in fine things, got hers at K-Mart for $14. She goes to a school that has a lot of very wealthy students (she’s not). She receives many compliments on her bedding. She does have very good sheets from BB&B, along with a very nice blanket/throw from Macy’s, where she previously worked in the Home department.

Have you tried overstock.com?

LOL college_query!

To add on to what college_query said, while I did go for a cheaper comforter, I also sprung from nicer sheets from BB&B.

Steve Madden bed-in-a-bag with town XL at Homegoods. We also saw them at TG Maxx.

Ikea for one and Target for the other but both Ds say they use their handmade extra large fleece blanket the most.

^Down comforters are pricey. Once you have slept under down comforter, you do not want others.

Oh, yes, D. has duvet + pillow cases from Ikea, perfect size for her comforter, awesome print, but she said it is a bit on teenage side for a 21 years old. Too bad, it was cheap.

sunnyflorida,
Don’t ya just love marketing?? Homegoods and TJMaxx are the same store/same parent company. Oh, and surprise-- Marshalls is theirs too!! I think only Ross is a separate company from these other 3.
