try Jcpenney. I got my college comforter there and it was cheap and very nice. I’ve gotten one other one there since and it was great also. They usually have an online sale where they are pretty cheap. My current one I actually got at walmart because it was the only place that had the color that i wanted and its wonderful.

Last year, D only liked one comforter from BB&B, but I thought it was way too expensive. We were happy to find a nice selection of really cute, quality comforters at Marshall’s (Homegoods) for 1/3 of the price. There were great sheets and towels there too that matched D’s comforter perfectly, along with tons of other dorm items: wastebaskets, desk organizers, lamps, decorative pillows, mugs, dry erase boards, laptop covers, etc. D bought a jewelry case that matched her decor, for example.

My D recently moved to an apt with a full size bed, so we got her a comforter set (incl sheets) at Kohl’s. With my 30% off coupon it was well under $50.

Two years ago when we were doing this, the BB&B selection of twin XL comforters was terrible. I seem to remember only a few to choose from, all in obnoxious colors.

We ended up ordering from Penney, and having them hold it for pickup at the store near the college. They didn’t have twin XL, so we ordered a double – nothing wrong with a comforter that’s a tad too big. D didn’t want to make a design statement with the comforter (the sheets are tie-dye), so she opted for solid navy blue. It was around $30.

Home Goods. Great selection, great prices.

Lasma: THANK YOU!! I didn’t know that JC Penney will do ship to store (or hold at store)…

Q: how long will they hold it for?

^^ I seem to remember they would hold it for 10 days, or maybe it was 7 days. Give them a call, and also confirm that they will do this at the specific store near your student’s college. But yeah, it was definitely the answer to our comforter dilemma.

Mine is an S, not a D, but we ended up having him take the comforter and duvet cover from his bed at home. Queen/full size works very well on X-L twins, comes down over the sides like a bedspread. The cover and matching shams are a dark blue and green plaid flannel from Cuddledown’s outlet, which we are lucky enough to live near, and suited to standing up to dorm life. I bought a fleece blanket from Target in a similar shade of blue, and bought XL-twin sheets in a similar shade from The Company Store. (Their prices and quality are great.)

Of course, this meant I had to replace his home bedding. I found great stuff at Target at a reasonable price. I was also able to get memory foam bed toppers at Target at a great price. I think the twin one was $25.

All this talk of comforters!!! I decided to peruse selections on line, and I bought a comforter for myself! Haven’t had a new one on 15 years, and I’ve been moving from country to a deco nouveau/more modern look. Haha. Target.

Garnet Hill catalogue for one and LLBean for the other. Both had modern day quilts with refreshing and upbeat colors. They liked the weight and size for the varying temperatures in a dorm room. Each had a throw to match. Three years later for one and 1 year later for the other and they still look brand new!

I only glanced through the thread so this may have been mentioned…
I was warned by parents of older college kids to wait till my D gets to her college before shipping out comforter. She is going to NE area from the west coast, so will have to adjust to much colder area than she is used to. But many of the dorms thermostats are centrally controlled so the rooms can be very warm and the kids sometimes only sleep under a light blanket, even in the middle of a blizzard! One son’s mom told me she only ships out sheets, a light blanket and throws in a sleeping bag if he needs extra warmth.
