Trying to find spots for things in our new home.
Our beds aren’t high enough to store under them. We have a huge primary closet, but the unused space is in the middle of it. Our other closets are just ready in, and I’d prefer to keep the guest room one empty for, you know, guests. We have walk in attic storage, but I’m not sure about spiders and such. Garage seems problematic for the same reason.
So, where do you keep yours?
I keep the luggage I use frequently in my shoe closet. Soft sided stuff is nested inside each other on the shelf and my carry on is on the floor. It takes up a good amount of floor space but it’s worth it to me to have handy. The luggage we use once in blue moon is in the basement.
We keep our luggage in the attic. We have never had an issue with spiders or any other critters and our luggage.
My closet has high ceilings so I line up the luggage along the wall on top of the hanging systems. I can reach all of it with a step stool.
This is where we store our luggage. The luggage that we use a lot is on the floor in the middle of the closet. The luggage that we rarely use is up on shelves around the edges of the closet, where even a tall person has to put in an effort to get it down (I suppose that this makes it easier for a short person, because they just ask the tall person).
Primary closet for us, but do you have a hall closet you could use?

We have kept luggage in the attic for 30+ years with no issue.
Our linen closet is not large enough. We have another type of storage closet, but it has kitchen gadgets and serving pieces and such in it. The floor has two tubs of seasonal type servingware. I really don’t have a lot.
We are using our second downstairs bedroom as an office. We might be able to put it in there eventually. Right now we have no booze storage space because our console table hasn’t arrived. I’ll look on there - that might be a good spot. It’s also serving as our coat closet. We do not have a separate coat closet,
For those of you who store luggage in the attic, what type of climate do you live in? We have four seasons. It’s a nice, walk-in space but obviously not climate controlled. It’s approximately 1000° in there today.
I live in New England. Definitely four seasons. Our attic has no HVAC. We have never had an issue with our luggage.
New England. Attic. No climate control. Sometimes I put it in a plastic bag, sometimes I forget. Mice are more of a concern than spiders - definitely make sure it’s zipped closed! My D22 keeps hers under the bed/in her closet as she is way more squeamish than I am (and obviously has been using it more often going back and forth to college).
We used to keep our luggage in the unfinished part of our basement. After the kids moved out, we gained closer space in their old rooms. We now keep our suitcases in one of the spare closets rather than in the basement.
We have our luggage (nested inside each other) on a high shelf in our laundry area. We actually had this higher shelf installed (the apartment came with only one lower shelf in that area). The luggage is on the shelf with other bulky items (like toilet paper, paper towels, spare air filter, etc.)
If we didn’t have that one, I would have put it in the high shelf in our bedroom or coat closet closet instead. I have no problem needing a step ladder to get it up and down - we don’t use it that frequently. I would not want it taking up precious floor space in a closet.
In our house, we stored them on shelves in our basement. We had a very dry basement, but they did kind of get musty smalling after sitting there for many years.
You can use a large garbage bag to store your luggage’s if you are concerned about bugs and such. I have various sizes of Away luggage’s, so I can put a smaller one in a bigger one. I put them in my closet.
Our closet shelves are not very deep. And they are all fixed. It would definitely have to go at the tippy top on the very top shelf.
Our luggage is on top shelf on MY side of closet. They are carry on bags with wheels and stacked on top of one another, turned on their sides. They fit ok. I have the packing cubes in a plastic storage bin on floor of closet. We have on carry on in H’s shed—it has 4 wheels & we’ve never traveled with it but we’re curious about 4 wheeled bags so we are hanging onto it for now.
I have my warm clothing in plastic bags with air out of them also in our closet. We try not to put much in the kids’ closets because it upsets them when they visit.
At present I have a large cedar closet in the basement where I store my luggage. I have gotten rid of the extra bags and am down to 3 -carry on size, medium and large. That’s it.
Planning to downsize to a 2 bedroom apartment and thinking I would store them in the closet of the guest room. I’m not planning to leave an entire closet empty for guests, just enough room for them to hang a few days worth of clothes ( don’t want them to get too comfortable 
).
FWIW, we store stuff in our guest closet too. I’m not leaving it empty when I need the space.
We live in an area with four seasons and our attic is definitely not climate controlled.
