No, no, no. Guest bedroom closets (and drawers) must remain absolutely empty!

I’m with you. This is my preference for a guest room. In our new house, all three of the extra bedrooms are small (only 10 x 12). Only one will be set up as a bedroom. The other two are serving as an office and an exercising/guitar playing room. The latter can easily become a second guest room or nursery in the future. But it would definitely have to have some items in its closet. But the primary guest room closet shall remain empty!!
My primary guest room doesn’t have anything in the closet either other than extra pillows and blankets for the guest bed but my other spare rooms are used by us. I’m thinking we could consolidate stuff out of the other guest room closet and move it into the office closet. That said, that other closet is more easily accessible. Maybe when guests are coming we could temporarily do a move out. Hmmm….
My guest room closet and dressers are for my use. I put off season clothing and other stuff in them.
In my big house (where we had lots of storage space and closets), I used the guest room closet and drawers for off season clothing. Easier to get to in a closet one room away vs. a closet in the basement or on another floor.
In my little 2 bedroom apartment, I put off season clothing in that closet. I see no point in letting a perfectly good, climate controlled, easy to get to storage place go empty.
I rarely have guests, usually just my daughter, and she only comes for a few days. I have also been a guest in other’s guest rooms, and don’t expect any closet or dresser space - guest should live out of their suitcase. I am happy if they provide a suitcase holder (like in hotels), but fine if not.
Our luggage (just a few suitcases) is stored on a large table in the unfinished side of our basement. The big table allows me to put other travel-related stuff there too (packing cubes, neck pillows, etc.).
Traveling still a bit stressful for me so appreciate the organized feel of having everything together!
My daughter keeps her travel stuff inside her suitcase - back cushion, extra toiletries, air tag, etc. Makes it easy to pack. But she basically only has one carryon (backpack) and one checkable suitcase (backpack stored withing the bigger bag).
That would not work as well for us, as we have several types of suitcases. I do keep all the travel stuff together in one place - including international travel power converters, air tags, a collection of chargers with cables, etc.
Do we need a guest room thread? ![]()
I am working towards having a big suitcase that a smaller suitcase will fit into that a carry on will fit into. Eagle Creek is my current preferred brand, but we’ll see where I wind up.
At one point I had bought a three piece luggage set which all fit in each other, which made for very easy storage!
