Where Does Uci Stand For You?

I was just wondering…

of the people who got accepted, where does UCI stand in terms of your list of schools you want to attend?

is it a safety? your dream school? your fit school and you’re happy to go?

This was last year, but for my daughter, UCI was kind of a fit school, I think, but she really liked UCDavis and went there instead…and she loves it so far, so for her, it worked out for the best.

I am a UCI alum…got in to Brown, Notre Dame, Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, USC, and UCI.

It wasn’t at the top of my list at first, but I realized it was a great fit for me and then I got into the CHP and also got a Regents’ Scholarship, so it was an easy choice. I don’t regret it for a second. I had a great experience there, and now I am attending a top 15 business school and will have my MBA in 2007.

It all started at UCI.

I think what motivates a lot of high achieving students to attend uci is regents and chp. Before I received the letters I was considering attending ucla or ucsd but I’ve definitely changed my mind. UCI went from being merely a safety to becoming my top choice as was the case with alicantekid. It doesn’t matter how good school spirit is in choosing a school - what really matters is whether the school has the resources you need to end up getting a good degree and getting into a good school for graduate studies - and UCI’s got it all.

wow over…brown notre dame, cal, ucla, ucla, ucsd…
incredible dicision…

Right now, I’m really confused and indecisive. I just got the admission letter from USC last night, one of my two first-choice schools, but the Regents’ and CHP at UCI is a really really great offer. And my parents aren’t really helping since they’re typical Asians and care a lot about prestige and therefore want me to pick USC.

Both schools have a lot of pros and cons for me. USC being literally 20 minutes away from home is way too close to home, not to mention the ghetto neighborhood. A bunch of people from my HS have UCI as their first choice. I think it’s pretty easy to avoid them but it still turns me off. If UCLA accepts me too, I am going to be even more confused.

Pri- T

What HS do you attend? ANNDDDD USC ALREADY SENT OUT LETTERS??!??!??

micheeatsfish: USC began sending acceptance letters in early February. acutally, i think the earliest that people began receiving acceptances was jan. 28

micheeatsfish: I attend a lame public school in San Gabriel, CA. :stuck_out_tongue: USC sent acceptances to scholarship receipients in February and then took a break. I wasn’t chosen for anything, just accepted and I got it on March 2, letter dated March 1, so I think acceptances are starting to come out again.

The only acceptances sent out by USC are those that were rejected for scholarships and applied by 12/10. If you applied by the 1/10 deadline you will not hear from USC for at least 1 more week.

I was accepted to USC in February, but no scholarship so far. UCI was my super safety since I have ELC, but now I really can’t decide. I have Chancellor’s and CHP, which is really starting to sound like a good deal. Oh well, I’ll wait for all my letters first.

Pri-T: Gabrielino? :P

You guys are too indecisive…

Come on, I mean it really doesn’t make a huge difference whether you graduate for USC, UCLA, or UCI when it comes to applying for grad school. A high GPA at UCI is sure to get you a competitive degree and into a top grad program.

…and with regents (a $36,000 value) who in their right mind would choose USC or UCLA and pay full tuition. If the choice were between UCI (with regents) and Harvard, I’d go for Harvard…but between UCI and USC…I mean come on…GO 'EATERS!

ok, this might seem like i dumb question, but i need your opinions. uci is ranked higher than ucr, right? i got into uci and usc, but i have regents for ucr so far and don’t know if i got into ucla, berkeley, or ucsd yet. really indecisive, just like Pri-T. should i throw away the regents for ucr and go to uci? so confused.

Go to UCI or USC or one of the others you mentioned if you get in.

UCR comes nowhere near UCI or USC in prestige…its really not worth it even with regents in my opinion.

thanks for your opinion!

UCI, I thought, was a fit school for me. I applied and thought, Why not, I might get in. I wasn’t considering it strongly at the time.

The CHP invitation, however, has urged me to consider UCI more heavily. The CHP really is a good offer, I think: I heard that only the top 3 percent of UCI’s applicant pool is invited, and that there are many, many benefits involved. Ultimately, my decision will come down to UC Irvine, UC Davis, or UC Berkeley (if I get in). It’ll be a tough choice to make, but, in the end, I hope I make the right one.

Yeah, Irvine moved from the bottom of my list to the top when i found out i got CHP (and when i found out what it was…). Now I’m almost certain i’ll be attending UCI next year, even over UCLA or Berkeley. Maybe I’ll see some of you guys at the CHP thing on March 11, or during the stay over program

this might be a dumb question, but what is CHP?

how do u know if u got chp or regents? im not considering uci because apparently i got neither.

CHP = Campuswide Honors Program
