Where to eat in Amherst MA?

Leaving tomorrow Staying one day in Amherst then on the Burlington VA
Any restaurant recommendations for Amherst? We are staying at the UMass hotel.
Thanks!

I enjoyed Judie’s Restaurant or Pasta E Basta, but make reservations! It’s fun to be on Main Street and in the heart of things, to get the flavor of college life there. And the food is very good.

You’ll see plenty of other choices walking up North Pleasant St. or across Main.

Just be sure to allow time for parking in that more congested center of the town.

Extremely Helpful Link for all restaurants and parking maps: [Amherst Restaurants Locations. Find restaurants in downtown Amherst, Massachusetts.
When we needed an easy place to drive up and park without a preplan, S pointed us to Wheatbury, on Main St., but they’re closed Mon, Tues. Otherwise, I would have suggested that, too, because it’s in between the center of Amherst and UMass itself. Better for location than food.

Here’s a novel suggestion: find out if parents are allowed on the Five College Consortium free shuttle bus. If so, take that into the center of town and just enjoy walking around, car-free, for the evening. That will more resemble a student’s life if they attend UMass or Hampshire. Otherwise, pahk the cah and just imagine he got there by jumping onto a shuttle bus. Healthy students walk from UMass into the center of town, about a mile; Hampshire’s 3 miles; Amherst College 1/4 mile.

OOPS, Judie’s is closed on Mondays, but Pasta E Basta is open then.

Let’s see, I’ve eaten at:

Amherst Brewing Company - decent food, excellent beer

Antonio’s - you could eat there every day for a month and not get the same kind of pizza twice. Sooo good. One slice is enough for a meal. Not an eat-in place though.

A Thai restaurant, I don’t remember the name - I thought it was pretty decent Thai food. Don’t remember exactly what I had.

The Pub - the burgers are good. The family seemed to like it.

Northampton has some really nice restaurants if you have time to go there.

Personally, I’m happy to eat in the dining halls (parents eat for free!), the food is really good. I’d recommend you eat a meal in a dining hall (Berkshire is the best), I think it is always a good idea to check out the food when visiting a school.

My son goes to UMASS. Here’s a novel suggestion: the UMASS dining halls. UMASS has ranked number 1 in the nation in campus dining. It is an amazing all you can eat feast of various cuisines from Asian stations, standard issue comfort food, pizza bar, salad bar–the list goes on.

I notice you said you’re going to Burlington, VA. Do you mean Vermont? If so, your route would take you to the next town over, Northampton–home of Smith. It’s another great, and bigger town with great boutique shopping and many more restaurants than Amherst.

Thanks everyone
Yes I mean VT not VA

I didn’t even think of the dining halls.

I will write down these suggestions

Thanks for the link latichever

The top restaurants in town are Chez Albert and the newly opened 30 Boltwood at the Lord Jeffery Inn. Tabella’s is a nice tapas and wine bar. For lunch, I would recommend Fresh Side, which is Asian fusion. Monkey Bar is pretty good too, but gets noisy in the front room.

Thanks!
Very much

We like a Mediterranean place called Moti’s. Falafel wraps, that sort of thing.

Loved our dinner at Pasta E Basta, and great pizza from Antonio’s!
