Back to fantasizing about destinations: Buenos Aires. A great city, with great food and wine, and it’s now winter, temps in the mid-to-high 50s.
@Nrdsb4 I would put it at 74 degrees and leave it. If the tenant is paying for electricity, it should be up to them to have the thermostat set where they want it. The fact that they aren’t there shouldn’t matter. If they were there, you’d have no control over it, unless there is a condition in the lease?
^^^ But it is more wear and tear on the unit that they (landlords) own, and in Texas that is just negligent, in my opinion.
The Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier. It is walking distance to glaciers and one of the prettiest spots you will ever see. We also just got back from Yellowstone. It was upper 70s in the valleys but around 55 at 10,500 ft.
We do not have AC here in our Seattle suburb. We use Douglas firs and cedars to keep the house in the shade much of the day. Even last year the house never got above 80. It’s always about 60 at night in the summer so we sleep with windows open.
Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton Ontario Canada is also gorgeous! We stayed there several nights. It’s on the Canadian side of Glacier.
DH decided to leave it where the tenant instructed.
I would have done differently, but I wasn’t there.
Negligent or not, it is the tenant’s choice. That’s one of the risks you take when you rent out a property and are unable to control the heat and A/C.

Oh, I second the Paradise Inn. We visited there one June when I was in high school. It was the first week the road was open because of all the snow! It was fun watching people ski in short-sleeved shirts. I think that was when I started thinking that moving someplace with a lot of snow would be nice.
Would you want them to leave the fireplace or a space heater on while they were gone in the winter for 7 weeks? It is certainly their choice while they are in residence, and,. you are correct, legally they have the right to keep their furniture cool, but it still is ridiculous in my opinion.
We live in a very hot and humid climate. The first time we were away for a couple of summer months, the thermostat was at 78 and I returned to find some slight mildew in closets and cupboards. Now I set it at 74, and no problems.
The fact the house was closed up so long seemed to me the problem. I prefer the thermostat higher when I’m home because I run really cold. Who knows, but I’m not talking the chance again. 
Those are hardly the same thing as having the A/C on.
Yes! We have to have the A/C on in our second home in SC whether we’re there or not. There’s no way you could leave a house closed up with no A/C with the heat and humidity there in the summer months.
You don’t have to leave a Dallas house at 74. It’s not Florida. It just wastes power which isn’t great for the environment, among other things. No one is talking about leaving it with NO AC.
Agree it’s not entirely up to the tenants when they’re away all summer and your unit is older. When they’re in residence, that’s different.
In Tampa past six years (time flies), from Wisconsin. Have acclimated. We treat summers here like we did winters up north. Indoors. Keep A/C at 78, heat 72. Up north was 76/70/65 nights. Different tolerances with age and bodies do adapt the internal chemistry (saw an article awhile back). Humidity is a huge factor- have been known to lower temp for a time to decrease indoor humidity. H wears a jacket in over cooled restaurants. Steamed glasses coming out of the grocery store some days in summer- the converse of a Wisconsin winter.
Disney in summer. It will be hot- mid 90’s, and humid. Expect a less than an hour storm, heavy rain. Find time for the less than an hour’s drive to the Atlantic coast one day (Space Center worthwhile as well).
Michigan and Wisconsin get heat waves, you won’t know until days before what will come. Even in the north woods.
Seattle is expensive in the summer, it’s the high season. We checked since we love the area in summer (too gloomy for me in the drizzly season).
Alaskan cruise idea is great- for next year. Too late for good deals now. Having a balcony is worth the price. Went last summer with days before and after in Seattle- saw son and nephew’s family. Last year there were huge wildfires than put air quality into danger zones (the Victoria, BC cruise stop blamed the US wildfires for the haze while it was the Canadian ones that plagued Seattle…). We changed outdoor activity plans, sigh.
We went to DC in late May- missed the rains and families, had great weather. Going to London next month. No nine year old boy to look after this time.
May repeat the Alaskan cruise idea. Not into cruising in general but this was a great way to see that state a bit. We got lucky with weather- the only day without rain for many days at one stop. Holland America has nice amenities for us. Exploring Vancouver, BC would be a nice addition, plenty to do. We would add Seattle time to see son. Have travelled north and south of the state borders- plenty of places to explore in the PNW.
Carmel, CA is quite cool in the summer. We also found relief in Whistler, BC.

I just came back from north/central Europe. Not my idea to go there in July and I wouldn’t want to do it again. AC is very rare and when it goes up into the mid 80’s and you don’t have good ventilation (or fans) it is just uncomfortable. I was very happy to return to a hotter climate with proper AC!
I would go waaaaaaay north if you want to be sure of cool weather. Sweden is having a heat wave. Go to Iceland instead, or very high elevations in the mountains somewhere. Don’t take a chance on being stuck in London or Montreal during a heatwave, ugh.
I’m so glad I packed a tiny fan that plugs into a USB port. Saved my sleep on many nights!
We are heading for Tahoe—probably should be cool in evenings.
