DH travels to Switzerland in a few days for a week of hiking and bonding with our nephew. He keeps mentioning the Dallas forecast to me. Also mean.

My ancient list of what to bring to Cape Cod in the summer lists. “Sweat shirt”, but crossed out and corrected to “At least two sweat shirts”. Sometimes it’s lovely and warm though! I’ve been to northern Vermont when it was muggy and hot the entire week - we did all the swimming holes that year and much less hiking.
One of the things I love about coming to our house in Maine is there is NO air conditioning! I love the utterly absolute quiet. I love sleeping with the windows open, I love that by morning of most of the hottest nights I need to pull a sheet and blanket up, I love the variety, one day a tank top the next day a sweater.
Yeah, we just have an AC unit in our office. No central air needed.
When we left for our cabin Friday evening, I thought, “There’s no way I’ll need a sweat shirt this weekend,” but I brought one, anyway. Thank goodness! By Saturday evening, I needed it. It was still warm enough to swim in the lake on Sunday.

I remind my tenants that any water damage is their responsibility per the lease. While this typically refers to freezing pipes in the winter, it also includes running an ac non-stop that could cause AC units to freeze up in the summer and or cause ac water drains to become clogged. Our lease isn’t specific about damage to the AC unit but is specific regarding water leaks and damage incurred. (I would be tempted to do a nice approach and install a set back thermostat. We very frugal and set back our AC to 85 at night in Dallas and have ceiling fans. Our house temp rarely drops below 82 even at the hottest times. For a tenant out of town, i think you could set the night temp at 80 and it would still cycle on and off and not cause damage.)
I’ve been on vacation and just catching up. @Nrdsb4 , I hope your rental’s AC survived the heat wave. I know how hard these excessive heat days are on older units. Having an AC fail prematurely can be a several thousand dollar hit to the pocketbook.
