DS will be going to grad school at UC in Boulder this fall. I have no idea which neighborhoods he should be looking in to rent and which neighborhoods he should avoid. Any guidance on neighborhoods around campus would really be appreciated!

I’ve heard that the family/grad housing is convenient and affordable.

We live about 20 miles from Boulder. When looking for apts for CU daughter, we mostly shopped convenience to campus, price, and terms of lease. We used Craigslist. A car is not so convenient - most students walk, bike, or use their student bus pass. Here’s a link to bus routes - [Bus Routes | Parking & Transportation Services](http://www.colorado.edu/pts/commuting/bus-routes)

Thanks, colorado_mom. DS does not have a car so it’s really good news that walking/bike/bus will work for him in Boulder. I looked at the crime rates in Boulder, and it seems to be a great place to live - very safe. I can’t wait to visit him there! :-)

When we visited Boulder we were told that they plow the bike paths before the roads. ;)

I lived just north of Arapahoe around 19th not far from the 'Mork & Mindy" house. Very easy walk to campus and downtown. Lots of smaller apt buildings in area. I had a 1BR. Very adequate.

Son is in graduate school there now. When he was looking for apartments he was told he may want to avoid The Hill area as it seems to cater to undergrads and maybe a bit noisier than he would want. It all depends on the individual though. Found prices in Boulder for apartments are on the high side. May want to check with Housing Helpers in Boulder. This is a free service and they can help you find apartments. They even set up appointments to go look at them with you. Son did not use them but many people do who are new to area.

I appreciate the info. :-)

Much of the crime in Boulder seems to be the drunk-student kind of thing. Years ago it had the famous Jon Bonet Ramsey murder case, but I think I read that it was the only murder case in the city that year. It’s a lovely town, but yes… rents are higher than a lot of places. Good luck!
