Saw this article and I thought, “Yeah! All done, moving on …”
What are some things you are glad you don’t have to do again? Here are a few of mine:

college roadtrips

college applications

drive around town, just to get “practice” to get a license

Sit through another information session where they tell a room full of juniors what classes they should have taken in the first three years of high school.

I have often been happy to have an only child…never having to go through college choice again (well, except for listening when she picks a grad school) is def. one of the top reasons to be happy about it!

S.V.Mom – ‘Too little info too late’ seems to be the modus operandi for far too many GC’s.

nag them to:
study for SAT or ACT or subject or AP tests
write their college essays during the summer
complete applications
send transcripts
fill out scholarship applications

hear college admissions people say that they make their school affordable for everyone when you know you are just a whisper above the FA cutoff and won’t get any financial aid and they don’t offer merit aid.

Go in to see the HS GC and hear her say, “I’m glad to finally meet you after talking on the phone and by email so many times.” We had met face-to-face numerous times during junior year and once or twice at the beginning of this year. Then of course she proceeds to tell me she doesn’t have an answer to my question. And it’s not followed by an offer to find out. Ok, it’s probably a thankless job, but I thank GC and college/career counselor every time.

Not that I want to be a wet blanket, but many kids transfer-because of finaid or other issues.
My oldest attended private school K-12 and after she was admitted to middle school ( it ran through high school graduation) I said to myself " I won’t have to do * that* again"!.
Come to think of it, even though her sister attended public high school, it still was quite a process of tours etc.

But I wasn’t involved in the grad school process at all. I didn’t even know about it, until she was already registered for classes.

OK so I still have 2 in college and a sophomore in high school so my list isn’t too long yet but…teething, ear infections, potty training, teaching them to tie their shoes, little league, AYSO soccer, mission project (a California thing I think), grammar school, junior high, braces, permit test, prom dress shopping (#3 is a boy).

I recognize many of the posters on this thread…;)…that’s how long I’ve been around! I concur with all the posts…we just completed our 3rd and last college admissions yr…and it feels GREAT! Tomorrow morning, D3 meets up with the rest of the senior class and will head toward the Colorado River for their last outdoor bonding trip…rowing down the river in canoes!!! Free until Weds night…ahhhh. :D
