Do AP scores matter if I already take the IB? (English A, History, Econs HL). Which AP subjects matter more? (E.g. Comparative government, calculus AB, econs micro and macro - do these all hold equal importance, or are some undervalued by admissions officers at Oxford for PPE?
Your IB scores should be fine on their own, as long you’re taking the full thing and getting or expecting good scores.
If you do look at the AP route, you need Calc BC not AB (and if you’re not doing math HL that might not be a bad plus to your application - they like a strong math background for PPE, although you can get in without math A level/AP/HL. Economics is not required, and you’d really need both of the econ APs.
I’d probably just stick with the IB if I were you.
Check out this site for application requirements: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/undergraduate/getting-started/international-and-eu-students/tips-international-applications - the application deadline for Oxford is 10/15.
When my son applied to Oxford PPE, AP scores were a must (but he wasn’t in an IB program). It think he had to submit 3 scores. I think Cambridge requires 5, which he didn’t have after junior year.
There are no admissions officers at Oxford in the same sense there are at US schools. You must choose a college at Oxford to apply to, get your school counsellor to write a letter of rec for you, take their version of the SAT (IEA?) and based on your test result/score, either receive an invitation to interview at the college you applied to, or not. You will have the option to conduct a Skype or on-site interview if you get the invitation. It is the faculty from the Economics, Politics and Philosophy Departments at the college(s) who will interview and decide to offer you either a conditional or unconditional offer.
You probably know this already, but thought I’d include this information for other potential applicants who may not.
