So i’m kind of struggling here, I already submitted my approved schedule for next year, which consists of the following classes:
AP Lit
AP Euro
Human Rights R
SUPA French
Health (required)
Gym (require)
SUPA Presentational Speaking
Algebra 2/Trig
SUNY/SUPA Forensic Science
I want to go onto become an International Relations major so I feel like I should have a heavy influence of Social Studies-based courses in my schedule since I will be applying to colleges next year. I’m currently in AP Euro and have no wish to switch out, but my school also offers AP US Gov (and AP Psychology) for seniors as well as an AP Social Studies credit. I really was hoping that I could take both Euro and Gov, but found out that my schedule would not permit me to do so. This is partly because I did not realize that my science class, SUNY/SUPA Forensics would include a lab. Science has never been a strong suit and frankly I have no desire whatsoever to pursue any type of career in the sciences. I asked my counselor today if I could switch out Forensics for Gov and she said it would be a bad idea and that schools want to see that I follow through with my core classes all throughout HS. Though my thought is that if i’m applying as an IR major why would they care whether or not i’m taking a Science course wouldn’t they rather see me take another Social Studies? My top school is Gtown SFS and no where in the core curriculum do you take a science class, so why does my counselor want me to stick with it? Does anyone have any thoughts?
