Which course should I take?

Hi,

I study in an international school and I am a sophomore
I will be taking Honers Chemistry, Regular English, Regular History, Algebra 2, Drawing 1 and 2, Japanese 1, and PE.

I want to take another course but I don’t know which one I should take.
I am deciding rather I should take Honors Advanced Mandarin 10 (which is higher level than AP Chinese) or public speaking.

I am a native Chinese speaker. Taking mandarin will it be bad for me when I am applying for colleges since Chinese is my first language. However, I actually want to take mandarin because it will somehow raise my GPA A LOT because I will get a good grade in that class. Another reason I am thinking of taking mandarin is because this is my first year taking Japanese, I do not know whether I will like it or not. If I don’t like Japanese, I can drop Japanese in my junior year and continue to take mandarin. Our school requires taking 3 years of the same language.

I am thinking of taking public speaking because it is a required course in our school in order to graduate. Taking it this year may give me more options of courses next year. However, taking public speaking may not raise my GPA as much as the mandarin class since it is not a honors class.

So which course should I choose?? Honors Advanced Mandarin 10 or Public Speaking???
Will taking mandarin give me fewer credits when I am applying for colleges in the future??

PLEASE HELP
THANK YOU!

You should take a class that interests you, not that totally revolves around a GPA status. I would take public speaking, it gives you more opportunities and who wouldn’t want that? It would be extremely beneficial and important in my eyes. Good luck!

On the other hand, people in America take English…why can’t you take a Mandarin course?
