I read somewhere that UChicago, which is a CSS Profile school, does not look at the non-custodial parent’s income/assets, or perhaps it’s that the NCP doesn’t need to complete the NCP CSS Profile. Is that true? Are there other Profile schools that only consider the primary custodial parent’s finances?
If you go to the CSS profile list of school there are approximately 400 schools. There are 4000 colleges in the U.S.
Remember just because the school does not ask for the profile/non-custodial profile does not mean that they do not have their own form for custodial/non-custodial parents
You really need to look at the schools that you are interested in and see what they require. Please do not expect others to do this legwork for you
@sybbie719
Thank you for responding. Please know that I never expected others to do my legwork. It was just something I had heard and was curious about, and I thought if another CC’er knew the info off the top of their head, then perhaps they could chime in. No harm in asking, right?
My D is creating her list of schools independently of this.
University of Chicago doesn’t use the Profile. Fafsa only which only asks for custodial parent. Chicago has a short form of its own in addition.
I don’t think Vanderbilt automatically requires it.
found it https://profileonline.collegeboard.org/prf/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet/PXRemotePartInstitutionServlet.srv
U of Chicago does require NCP profile…
No one knows anything about you/your child (goa/sat , intended major, travel restrictions, etc). Depending on your child’s stats, and what she is looking for, she may be a more viable candidate for merit
The most accurate information will come from the schools themselves.
The University of Chicago does NOT require the Profile for new freshmen enrolling fall 2018.
Students who were required to complete the Profile, when they enrolled…who are now seniors…seem to need to complete it.
Incoming freshmen do not.
Princeton doesn’t use the Profile. Princeton uses its own financial aid forms, and does require NCP information.
My bad about Princeton, but as I stated, on face, American and Bard state that they do not require the non-custodial profile. If you go to the school’s website, they state that they may still ask for non-custodial information (including filing the profile)
Agree, UChicago dropped it a couple years ago.
The list provided in post 5 is from the College Board…and sometimes it’s not accurate.
The very best place to get any information about what a college requires is by looking on that college website. Policies change…and sometimes the college board doesn’t keep up with these changes. There have been colleges that discontinued use of the Profile…but the College Board doesn’t not that correctly.
Always…ALWAYS check the college financial aid sections for the specifics to each college. That is THE only way to know what you need to submit.
Also…note the DEADLINES. Do not miss the deadlines for submission of any college related documents.
And check your spam folder regularly, because often notifications end up there.
There’s also at least one that met full need based on FAFSA only (thus no NCP info) and that was Albright in PA. It served as a financial safety for my D for that reason. That was 2015 and I am not sure if it is still true.
There are some other schools that don’t promise to meet full need but might anyway that don’t require NCP info - Denison, Wooster (did have a NCP form that asked for very little info and NCP was never contacted).
Guaranteed full tuition/ride merit scholarships can also be financial safeties for kids with an iffy NCP situation. We’re crowdsourcing an update to that list now at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/2006094-2017-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships.html
I believe that UNC Chapel Hill doesn’t require non-custodial parent information. The same I think is true of Vanderbilt. Be sure to check directly with those schools to confirm.
Thank you so much, everyone! You CC’ers have a depth of knowledge!
