Which Ivy do i have the best chance at?

SAT: 1370 (710M,660V)
SAT II: Math IIC-650, Writing-650, Chemistry-dont know yet
unweighted gpa-3.75
weighted gpa-3.91

taken hardest classes available
including all honors classes my school offers (5)
including 5 AP classes

Want to go into college of arts and science…

Best EC=volunteer work at hospital (500+ hours),
in many clubs, not no office held

Asian Indian Male
From Idaho

So which ivy do you think i have the best chance at? I am leaning towards Brown and Upenn…

Well Idaho seems to be a hook… I’d say Cornell is a good shot, possibly Dartmouth and Brown.

we have almost the same scores and i am taking the sat II dec 4, i’ll probably end up with scores similar to yours, however, i believe that you and i stand a chance with ivies considering all ppl on cc are applying to them. They are just way too good. So i advise you to go with other schools instead of wasting your money, but try one of them. That’s what i did, used money for Stanford, and now i just apply to schools like Duquesne

what does cc mean if you guys don’t mind?

the name of this site: college confidential…

So do i really have any chance at Upenn??

considering about 3 people apply to upenn from idaho…i’d say yes.

last year (if u look at the site) 1 person went to penn from idaho. 215 did from california. 399 did from pennsylvania.

i don’t think where you live or what you are really matters, i.e. my friend who is an Alaskan Eskmo (that’s right, they are really rare), with SAT 1400+ and everything good didn’t get in to Stanford, so yeah…

well some schools are different… look at Bowdoin on Princetonreview.com… Demographics are under “important considerations in freshman class selection…” to me that’s garbage! lol, because a lot of the stuff under “important” is non-academic related

sigh…i wish i was from wyoming…lol. pop of 400000, and like NOONE applies to the ivies from there…

so any other guesses on my chances?

You have a decent shot. You’re slightly more competetive than the average applicant. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate you a 6/6+. Write some amazing essays and get incredible recs. You’ll also need a strong hook like a special interest or quality that will pull you above applicants w/ better stats.

Out of curiosity, how are APs/Honors weighted at your school? With 5 APs and 5 Honors, I would assume your weighted GPA would be higher. Or did you just get B’s in those classes?

wait! i know the kid from idaho who went to Upenn! he played tennis and lived in boise! wow!

back to my chances…

no i got A’s in all my AP classes excpet stats…and Honors English for 1 tri. for the rest, i got all As.

My school grades like this: A=4,B=3,etc… for regular classes AND honors…suxs eh?
for AP, my school grades like this: a=5,b=4 etc…

Oh, I’d like to clarify my rating scale since my definition of a 6 will differ from others.

A 5 essentially means an avg. applicant with stats that fall within the accepted range. However, nothing extraordinary or outstanding. Chances of getting in are the same as the school’s acceptance rate.

9-10’s are outstanding students, the kind you would naturally assume got accepted. Their chance of getting accepted is around 90 ish.

8’s are the borderline students. They’re just below the 9’s and 10’s, but still quite competetive stats. Acceptance rate of around 50%.

The 6’s and 7’s are in-between the 8’s and 5’s. They’re more competetive than the 5’s, but fall short of the 8’s. They need a strong hook/essay/EC/award/talent/etc. to pull ahead of others.

Oh…thats a good rating scale. lol better than giving percentagles…

so what do the rest of you think? i cant apply to all, only 1 or 2 at most (if my parents let me)

It’s funny there’s this kid at my school named Nilesh also, and what’s more… he’s Indian too :)

just felt like I had to say that

How About New Mexico

I’m seriously not trying to attack you but just pointing something out.

It seems to me as if you are not set on any school, so I’m wondering why it has to be an Ivy school? They may be an awesome reason for why you want to go to an Ivy, but why not take into account a field or major a school is good at.

I’m milking the “Idaho” hook for all it’s worth in my apps.

If UNC gets nothing from my essays they’ll get what it’s like to be a liberal activist from a state that’s 75% Republican.

EDIT: And the only person I know who goes to an Ivy (Yale) is really from Connecticut and is one of the “summer home” people.

I think the you have the best chance at College of the Ozarks located in Missouri
