which private boarding school has very strong soccer team? thanks!
Two currently doing very well are South Kent from Connecticut (all-boys) and Pennington from central New Jersey. On the girls side, Pennington, again, has been nationally ranked (among both public and private) for most of the last decade.
Oh, and McDonogh School in Maryland, ranked nationally for both boys and girls. But, it’s a PK-12 school of about 1,350, of whom only 115 are five-day boarders (tuition is almost $38,000). Beautiful 800-acre campus in the countryside north of Baltimore (used to be “country” when I was young, anyway; now much less so). Terrific soccer, though probably not the type of boarding school you’re looking for.

Tilton School
If you’re the mother of an applicant, consider your child’s prowess if sports are important to your decision. Sometimes a school can field a team so strong that even good players don’t get playing time. Paradoxically, being the best player on a weaker team could lead to more playing time. Apparently students trying to be recruited by colleges put together packages including video snippets showing their performance on the field. (check out the CC sports recruit forum for more details.)
I recommend you ask the schools you’re interested in for a list of recent graduates recruited to play college sports. There’s also a difference between aiming for your child to start on a Division 1 team, and hoping their talents will get them into a NESCAC school.
Berkshire School for boys soccer.
