Whistler anyone?

Anyone going to Whistler next month w/presidents club? If not, any fun things to do by self while husband is playing golf? Spa thing is ok, but the massages at resorts can be so random and always $$$. Thanks

I thought this thread was going to be about how to whistle–an ability I’ve never been quite able to pick up.

oops–tried to edit title but too late.
sorry. I can’t whistle either, a how to would be nice.

I thought of the painter. I have no idea what you are talking about!

^^Me too. I thought maybe there was a touring Whistler collection exhibition that someone was going to report on.

Canada we fly into Vancouver

Well here’s one that knows Whistler, since I had a couple of glorious spring skiing vacations there, before all the development and opening of Blackcomb, when in my opinion it was nicer and less crowded.
But that was so long ago. I don’t know the area anymore, but I’d think that once you arrive, many activities that are not golf related would probably be open to you. If you like hiking, there may be group hikes… the area is spectacular. I’d think the lifts go up in summer too.

The drive from Vancouver is beautiful. Haven’t been there in several years - I see there’s now a train option as well. Whistler is pretty laid back in the summer, with a focus on outdoor activities – hiking, biking, golf, gondola ride; when we were there you could climb a scaffolding and swing on a trapeze with an acrobat (I passed). There are shops but it’s not a bargain-hunter’s paradise. At the risk of sounding like a slug, some time enjoying the spectacular scenery while reading by the pool would be one of my priorities. Lots more people will be familiar with Whistler in the near future as it is the 2010 winter olympics site. Hope the construction doesn’t mar your visit.

The bike trails at Whistler are very good, so you could rent a bike. Ride the gondola if you like heights. Eat. Eat some more… a fun place that I’ve visited only in the winter.

Like extreme cycling ? I saw some people coming down the ski slopes with their bikes, and doing jumps over a ramp.

I thought it was only the young ones until I saw one up close. He must be at least middle aged. He was outfitted like Robocop though. Full body armor. ;)

so what is president’s club?

If you’re daring you might try the Zipline. It was amazing! We didn’t do the Tree Tour, but it sounds like fun if you’re not up for ziplining. Taking the gondola is worthwhile and you can watch the crazy bikers from above.
There’s also rafting and canoeing. It’s so beautiful I could spend days just looking at the scenery.

We know a local family who goes every year, though their kids are still fairly young. Also wondering – how long is the drive from Vancouver?

This is a spot we’re considering for a trip West. Is there a lot of development in the Vancouver area for the upcoming Olympics?

The drive from Vancouver is about an hour and a half and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Whistler is a great place to visit year round with lots to do, or as someone else said, you can lounge around the pool and enjoy the spectacular views.

I wonder whether they have helicopter tours in summer, much as they offer helicopter skiing in winter. That would be fun! I’m sure there’s a lot to do, nature wise as well as in the village. Enjoy the trip!

Thanks, always–

We spent a couple of days in June there a few years back when H had a conference. Son & I did the following
Day One - Tram up to the top of the mountain and hiked down
Day Two - Rented bikes and toured the bike trails along the river
Day Three - Went river rafting
Day Four - Shopping in town and hanging out at the hotel pool
Day Five - Drove down the valley and went rock climbing at Squamish (sp?)

Lots of great resturants. I thought the town looked like Legoland - zoned for cuteness. We had a lot of fun. First “resort” town my son had ever been to - he was ready to move there.

Ah, we honeymooned at Whistler, 31 years ago this month. I haven’t been back since, but I would like to see it again. Have fun!

I’m going there in about four weeks and will be taking a bus ride from Vancouver to Whistler. If it’s really nice, maybe we’ll plan a family trip there sometime.

Gosh, this thread should have started a week earlier. We were thinking of going to Whistler in July, but than changed mind and will be going to Port Angeles and Olympic National Park. I hope the decision was correct.
