Has anyone interviewed with the VP’s office? That’s the office I really want, so I’m curious if they have started interviewing. Thanks!

I have the same question but for the Office of the Chief of Staff. It’s my top top pick
I’ve heard from another office but would simply die to hear from COS!

@collegeconfi2020 any news from the internship office? I saw you asked for the number earlier.

The COS office was my top choice as well but no word from them as of yet.

COS was also my top pick – I think COS, Vice President, and First Lady are supposed to be the hardest to get (ie. everyone applies to them). My interview was with a different office altogether…but it nevertheless sound exciting and I’d be thrilled to get it.

I have a question for everyone. How are you going to fund your stay in Washington DC if you get the internship? Parents? Local community organizations? Part-time jobs? Grants and scholarships? Any suggestions help. Thanks. :)

Hey ichristina2011, I will be reaching out to my Alma mater and alumni for support. I have googled scholarship opportunities but haven’t found any. If anyone else has some tips it would be greatly appreciated.

What will you guys do for housing if you get it? Thanks!

@ichristina2011 Parents…haha… Since I’ll be “on leave” from my college, and exceptionally so since we’re required to stay on campus for our full senior year, I don’t think they’d want to give me any money.

@Analytical10 Probably Virginia or Maryland along the DC public transportation…unless I can find something relatively inexpensive, safe, and well-connected in DC. In other words, probably VA or MD… :P

I don’t know if there’s much of a connection among past interns and incoming interns, but at least in previous internships I’m done, we’ve had some help with at least locating housing. In my internships abroad through the gov’t, the intern coordinator has given us lists of the other interns and their contact info so we could talk about rooming together, as well. Unfortunately, in that case, there were about 15 of us instead of 150, so I think WH would be less likely to provide that sort of information. Guess we’ll see.

Anyway, sounds like one more person secured an internship (Twitter search), but doesn’t say what office. Guess Twitter’s somewhat unreliable anyway since most people protect their accounts.

Hopefully we’ll hear soon. I submitted my application to my alternate program today…hopefully will hear from WH before the alternate so I don’t have to make a difficult decision…

Just got another application in process email. Glad, I guess? Could have been a rejection! Haha.

@wh2360 Same here! I was like, “Is this a rejection letter!” Scared straight. Hehe.

Question do members of the White House Internship Program interview only candidates they are unsure of based on the applications and/or their top candidates?

No processing email for me.

I assume “rolling notifications” means decisions are handed out based on the order that people applied?

I don’t think so. I think it means rolling based on when each department releases their decisions and when each person passes their background check. AKA, for us, rolling=random.

Does the background check not start until our vitals are submitted? If so, how long do those take?

Got an APE today as well

So far these are my notifications and dates:

Application confirmation email: Sept. 9
1st APE: Oct. 19
Email to schedule phone interview: Oct. 24
Phone Interview: Oct 25
2nd APE: Nov. 2

Still no vitals…

@amplifiar842 thanks for the info!

Is it appropriate to call the office and ask for an update?

I only ask because my interviewer told me weeks ago that if I hadn’t heard anything by now I should call in and ask.

Hi everyone, I have been checking out this forum for awhile now…

I received the APE a few weeks ago, then an interview last week, and then a second APE today.

Not sure about the purpose of the vitals email…it seems like it asks for information that was missing in the original application. Has anyone been interviewed and received a vitals email for Spring 2012?

Ahh what an exciting and nerve wracking process!!

I don’t think the vitals email has much to do with being accepted or not. I think the interview is make or break though. I’ve never heard of someone getting accepted without an interview (though lots of people get rejected after having had an interview).

It’s all very mysterious (and out of our hands). Just hold tight and keep the fingers crossed!

Question about the vitals form for those who completed one…

Which email address did you send yours to?

The request came from a @who.eop.gov address and said “Please reply to this email” but the attached form says send it to a @whitehouse.gov address.

@Omaha I sent my vitals to both email addresses just to make sure.

Got the second application-processing email today as well. I can only continue to express my hope that we all hear soon. I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to call the office after an email that concludes “We thank you for your patience” or however it ends. The one thing I don’t want to be is annoying…
