@sjrmeow - I’m a bit confused by some of the chatter in last November/December, but the first time I looked at it, I gathered that most were between 2-3 weeks after the start of rolling decisions. Regardless, it was definitely later than we will here. I hope, anyway. Their application deadline was a few weeks after ours. Spring 2011 applications were due on October 3, 2010. Their rolling notification date seems to have been November 15th, according to websites from the time, so yeah, you might be right.

Ahh…I do hope we hear sooner than a month after suggested. I suppose another two weeks wouldn’t be horrible…but I just really don’t want to hear from the other program where I applied until I’ve heard from the White House and that likelihood grows every day.

Additionally:
For last spring, a current White House intern was describing the selection process from his point of view (username “nostradamus”)…and I find it useful to know. What s/he writes more or less lines up with what I’ve heard of other competitive internship programs, in terms of the process itself.

On the process, Nostradamus wrote:
"I’m a current intern, absolutely loving it. This is what I’ve been able to piece together-- btw, it was just announced today that the deadline for spring is extended another week.

You submit your app, letters of rec. The internship office (which is comprised of one staffer and lots of interns and associates) go through and weed out the bulk of people-- then apps are sent to various offices where staff assistants will again look through and pick out people they think would be a good fit in their particular office. Then people get emails to set up phone interviews-- then if the person who interviewed you likes you, they send a recommendation back to the internship office, and most likely one or all of your references will be called. Then they make the final decision on whether or not to offer you the internship.

And if you don’t hear right away, don’t worry. I didn’t hear until a week after the suggested date on the website-- and I am here now. Just focus on writing a great essay, memo and really narrow it down to the office you’d like to work in. and fyi-- Counsel’s office generally only takes JDs."

Two weeks after the notifications theoretically started rolling out (in other words, about where we are now):
“fyi-- most of the interns have already been selected-- they are now just doing a preliminary vett to ensure there are no red flags. You’ll all find out soon enough.”

So perhaps the selections have already been made and they’re just combing through to make sure there are no obvious security risks.

I’ve heard from another recent intern (last summer) that Chief of Staff and Vice President are among the most difficult offices to get, so congrats, iChristina on the interview!
