White House Internship

Hey guys, I’m new to CC as well, and I’m pleased to report that I’ve been accepted to the office of Presidential Correspondence. Congrats to everyone else who has been accepted!

Does anyone know what they are doing for lodging? My goal like most of us is to keep cost as low as possible. This is a lot to figure out in a month KittyDWH, my brain is hurting already. Yesterday I was thinking about next semester’s class schedule…now…I’m trying to figure out where I’m going to live for the next five months. Easier said than done if you are not from the area.

To those who have not been accepted (yet) keep your heads up. I received 4 APE’s, 2 vitals emails, and an interview. (When I got the second vitals request, I was sure they meant to send a rejection. Nevertheless I filled it out and sent it in) be patient people, decisions are still being made. I know it’s hard to put life on hold, but it’s just a matter of what’s more important. Carefully weigh your options if you have other offers or possible jobs waiting. Best of luck all.

Gat0rba1t: Congrat’s that is such an amazing honor I hope you do well!!!

If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take for you to receive your first interview after you signed up online? And how do the interviews go…Also do you mind telling me your stats… what school you attend and the type of experience you have?

Again Congratulations, it is such a huge honor and accomplishment:)

Congrats Gst0rbalt! I interviewed with the same office. I’m assuming that you were notified today?

Thanks you guys, Yes I was notified today/yesterday. Tripple 0: I hope you get selected too. DangerKader08: I am really excited about this opportunity. My process went like this:
Applied Sept 9th
APE1: Mid Oct
Interview: 31 October
APE2: 3 days later
Vital1: Nov 6th
Vitals2: Nov 11th
Call back (interview2): Nov 20th
APE3: Nov 28th
APE4: Dec 5th
Conditional acceptance: Dec 7th
The interviews are really friendly. There’s a person(s) listening and taking notes and someone asking the questions. (At least that’s how it was for me) My advice for the interviews, be yourself. True story, when they called the first time I was driving home and I don’t believe in talking on the phone or texting while driving, it just so happened that I was sitting in a line of traffic, so I answered because I knew it was them (DC area code) So when he asked me if it was a good time to talk, I told him no and that he would have to call me back… When I hung up the phone I was sitting there thinking, what did I just do?…lol, I was certain they weren’t going to call me back, but they did. Just remember no matter what be honest even if you think it may get you rejected. They’ll ask questions ranging from your political views to your favorite song or my favorite can you dance lol. (Efforts to make you comfortable) A solid resume, and great interview, and you’re automatically in the running.
My experience I thought was fairly average. I’m an econ/business major. I’m not some brainiac by any stretch.
Don’t be nervous you’ll do fine. I hope you make it. What office was your first choice? Oh that’s another thing; don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear from your first choice. My first choice was the National Economic Council. I’m honored to be able to serve in this capacity even though it was not my first choice.
Best of luck all

Hey guys ! I know every is anxiously waiting for acceptances, I want to wish you all the best of luck and if it is not the WH I know you guys will serve another internship/job just as great.

Congrats to Gst0rbalt and KittyDWH !!!

I just have a quick question, does anyone know of people getting selected the first time around in applying for the WH ? I am applying for the summer session and this is my first time applying so I was just curious !

Thanks nala1919
I’m a first timer, so everyone has a chance. Good luck to you.

Ive only had one interview and one extra application for additional information. I hope thats not a bad sign

I received a conditional acceptance to the Office of Presidential Correspondence this afternoon! So excited! Therefore, acceptance are still going out. Stay positive people.

This is my first time on here so congrats to all who were selected, and to those who are waiting… keep your head up. I was conditionally accepted to the same office as KittyDWH. This was my first time applying aswell.

Congrats Humble1 and Bigtalker0007. Bigtalker I’ll be working directly with you. Have you guys looked into housing yet? If so any suggestions?

From what I understand, the internship staff was going to help us obtain housing and what not by working with the local colleges. But I could have heard wrong. I dont mind rooming with someone for as cheap as possible.

Thanks a lot Gat0rba1t! This is such an exciting opportunity! Humble1 that sounds like a plan. My adviser mentioned to me how alot of students stay at the school I attend when they do internships in Philly. But I would be up for rooming with people.

How exciting for you all! I also applied for the Coorespomdence office so I’m getting pretty anxious. How many interviews did you all have? I’m hoping that because I’m in California it takes a little longer for that background check to come in ;)

Just got an email from the Office of the First Lady :)

Congratulations! Does anyone know the last possible date we will know? How late can they tell us?

Nevermind, I answered my own question. I called the internship office and asked and they basically said that they can tell us as late the January 17th start date.

Oh wow… I’d say of you havent recievied a rejection letter yet, stand by, they like you. Some of us have sent in the paperwork for our conditional acceptances. If something goes awry, then they may pull you in… so sit tight

Anyone hear back from the DPC?

Hey Humble1 it’s pretty cool that we’ll be working together! To everyone else, don’t get discouraged it’s a slow process but at least they are still processing your apps. Definitely a good sign!

To everyone who has been accepted-- how about all of this paperwork! At least they are going to help with our transportation costs, that’s a plus!

Has anyone made any advancements in the housing department? I’m having a hard time even knowing where to start since I can’t exactly go see any places at the spur of the moment. Guess I’m going to have to plan a time to go down there and look. Let me know if any of you have had any success!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I just got an email that I was wait listed…I am going to decline it because of other opportunities next semester.

Best of luck to those who are still waiting.
