ItsDanielYall, sorry for the delayed response. I have applied to the Office of Leg Affairs, The Office of Management, Presidential Correspondence, Office of the First Lady, Office of the Presidential Personel.

Thanks, this looks like a pretty cool opportunity and wanted to get a little background before I spent my time digging through 200+ pages of this thread lol.

Hey Guys !!

I’ve been reading the previous blogs and I still haven’t been able to grasp the concept of rolling basis. Does it mean that they consider applications in the order that it was submitted ? So the earlier you submit your application, the more likely you are to receive a notification first ? If anyone could clarify this for me I would be so appreciative.

It doesn’t have anything to do with when you apply, it just means you’ll hear pretty much at any point between the date they list and when the internship starts. The offices decide and send out their picks on their own schedules.

I’m applying as I would be graduating next semester. I’m related to a member of the house of representatives… if I use her for a letter of recommendation would that have a lot of weight?

dlbecker: a buddy of mine applied with me, unfortunately he did not get an internship. his uncle is a senator, and he got him to write a letter of rec, and a few other higher up dignataries. i got an old family friend, my company commander from the Navy, and my old boss to write mine… so apparently the weight of the person writing it doesnt have too much effect.

dont worry too much about trying to impress the internship board with who you may know. in all honesty, they probably dont care. just prove to them that you deserve to be there. it worked for me.

Any of you fine people looking for roommates? I plan on flying out the 12th and staying with a friend for a couple of days, but I need a place to live. I would prefer living with someone close to my age (22) and even someone from this program! Please feel free to PM me or respond to this forum.

Thanks! Cant wait to meet you all out there

Applications for the summer session have been live for a while now. Is anyone here applying? What do you think the chances are for an incoming college freshman?

Finished the application; I spent quite some time on the essays. I’m not optomistic about becoming selected for the internship but having the opportunity to apply is always worthwhile in its own right

Hey guys- I was lucky enough to be selected for an internship, too. My tentative start date is jan 9. I found out last week that I passed the security test, but I have yet to take the drug test and do not have a “firm” date yet. I was told I would be contacted this week, but to date I haven’t heard anything.

My question is two-fold:
(1) has anyone who will be a spring 2012 white house intern had their drug testing done yet?
(2)what kind of test do they use? Hair, urine, saliva? I’m just wondering because some are faster than others, and I would like to start as soon as possible.

Any advice from past or current interns is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

the drug test is done some time during your internship- it is not done before you start your internship. you will get an email, the morning you are selected, providing you with more information.

and the government uses urine based drug tests.

anymore questions, feel free to hit me up. looking forward to seeing you out here next week!

What should the policy memo be about if you are applying to the Office of Cabinet Affairs, etc. (departments not related to policy)? The application says to address a topic that you are passionate/knowledgeable about, but since your audience is an office unrelated to a specific policy area, then what should the memo be on? I guess my question is also about who it is addressed to–the head of a department or the senior office staffer?

My application is complete. Best of luck to you all.

tochau - if you have to ask a question like that, you are not applying to the right place for a summer position.

Hi everyone,

I just sent in my application for the summer 2012 internship. It’s good to meet all of you here. Best of luck to everyone applying!

-ncParis

Uploaded my application at 4am last night (long story). Good luck to everyone! I think we should know by mid-February to mid-March, so we can all breathe right now.

Tochau (sp?) the policy memo is used to measure your professional writing ability. Remember that you selected 5 departments so your memo won’t be relevant to the other 4 departments. I wrote one to office of domestic policy and that’s not even my top choice. Good luck in the process, you have a day left to apply!

Hi all!
I submitted an app for Summer 2012, and just found this forum. Hopefully we can help each other out with the process! I’m worried I won’t be able to wait to hear (as other internships will want to confirm much earlier), but it is still my first choice.
Good luck everyone!

p.s.WHDenver85 – I’m here in Colorado, too!

Hey guys! I’m new here too. Submitted my app for Summer 2012 and ready to play this ridiculous waiting game with you all lol

Banannez,

Good to have a fellow Coloradan here (though I’m not from Colorado, I do live here though). Since today was the deadline, I figure we have a couple of weeks before we get the vitals email.

What is the vitals email? I saw mention of it previously in the chain, but didn’t see anyone explaining it.
