White House Internship

Sure. Thanks for asking, whdenver85.

I made recommendations to Kathryn Ruemmler, WH Counsel, on current UAV operations in Pakistan. It’s a controversial topic–and not to mention, classified–so I took a risk. Yeah, we’ve gotten crap from the Security Council about its legality. Yeah, we had to get out of Shamsi on account of Pakistan. And yeah, every time this issue comes up, there seems to be an interesting Pentagon-DOJ-WH-State powerplay. But I think we really got it right in Harold Koh’s ASIL statement (which defends President Obama’s policy). It’s smart policy.

Sorry for the semi-rant, but like ItsDanielYall, I’m passionate about the issue.

What did you write about?

Wow,

With a username like openpoetry, I wouldn’t have expected such an intense topic. As for me, I wrote to Domestic Policy about No Child Left Behind, the vague definition of parental involvement within the bill, and suggestions on how to improve it that included the state and local school boards while respecting the differences between states.

Anyone gearing up for the Fall 2012 application yet?

Sooooo end of week one, and still no initial letter. I’m hoping it comes next week. Happy weekend to everyone!

I haven’t received it either, whdenver85, though I think we’re fine for now. Anyway, hoping it comes ASAP as well.

NCLB is a great choice to write about by the way. I suspect you’ve read this already, but in case you haven’t, enjoy:

Do you think there’s a chance we won’t find out until April like the last round? I don’t know how people do that… Most internships will need to be accepted by March!

Banannez, don’t know but I have a feeling that’s likely to be the case. Very worried too, but more than willing to stick it out for a chance to work for the WH. I’m going to just take it one day at a time and see what happens…

Not going to lie I’m freaking out a little too. And the waiting continues !!

Working on my fall application as we speak! I am not in school but applying under the “must be a veteran who has been out of the military no longer then two years”. I am currently in Afghanistan but i’ll be out by the time the fall internship rolls around.

Are you guys turning down other offers as they come, hoping to hold out for this one?

I read on one of the pages way in the back that the internship program is aware of this site and they monitor it?

I guess just food for thought when posting

Thanks, Bruce91. So far on this board, I’ve only seen true excitement (slash anxiety) about getting this internship!

Ahh tell me about it! I’ve had interesting experience with the White House Internship program, but I’m determined to get in for Fall 2012.

Are you also going for Fall 2012 or the summer?

Thanks openpoetry for the NCLB reading! I agree with Banannez, the positivity on this board is awesome. As for the program monitoring the forum, I believe it because I know of a State Department program I participated in that admitted to reading another forum about it’s program. As long as people remain respectful/positive I think we’ll all be OK!

Happy Sunday!

All quiet this week, has anyone heard anything?

Good luck to everyone who applied!

Nada here.

We probably won’t hear anything until mid-late February. It seems like the Notification date is pretty accurate, according to previous applicants.

Daniel,

Some of us still haven’t gotten the initial email you got over a week ago. That’s what I was referring to, the initial, “we’ll notify you by february 20th” email is what I’m still waiting on.

Ahhh. Gotcha. Well, it’s a rolling basis, so hopefully soon. If some still haven’t gotten it, there must have been a lot of people who applied! How exciting :)
