White House Internship

Yeah I filled out a departmental review too, but I’m not sure what it means. I’m thinking it means you got the internship or got wait listed.

If you pass the background check and drug test of course.

Ah, I see. Thank you!

No problem! I’m hoping I hear soon though, keep checking my email

This is a really stupid question but am I suppose to fill it out, print it, and scan it and e-mail it to them?

No it’s not stupid, they don’t really explain. I would fill it out and print it for personal records. Then sign the pages and scan those pages. Then insert them in the PDF where they were. Also try and reduce the scanned pages PDF size or it will be too big for an email

Ah, thank you very much!

If you pass the background check and submit every single documentation that the White House sends you, you have a very high chance of getting the internship.

So good luck! :P

What did you all write your memos on? I’m trying to pick a topic.

I am still trying to pick my topic as well. It is not easy to decide.

It’s a high chance? That’s a relief to hear. It’s hard waiting this long without knowing much!

I know I have already asked this but I never really got a response. When I called and asked the White House about the internship, they said that each department handles their applications at their own pace. Which departments are all of you guys hearing from such as interviews, departmental reviews, etc.? I have yet to even get an interview. Essentially, what departments did you apply to?

The department I got an interview from was not a department I had selected, curiously … Wish you the best of luck.

I had issues turning in one of the forms as a PDF file. Even with compression. I ended up turning it in as JPEGs a few hours past 5 PM their time, even though it said to turn it in within two business days. I hope I am okay.

So anyone who has already went through this process, advice would be really appreciated.

I have never been arrested and have no criminal background, but it says on the application that during the security screening that you will be asked about drug use. I have smoked pot in the past. If I stop smoking in order to pass the drug test (I’m assuming it’s a urine sample that can be negative over time)… Is there even a point of applying to this program; would I be automatically thrown out if I answer that I have smoked pot in the past? (I would not try lying to the FBI.)

Honest advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does anybody know if it is a rolling admission or if they don’t begin considering applications until after 1/27?

I am not sure @whapplicant2013 but that is a good question. If anyone knows it would be much appreciated to post a response.

@GlitterBomb I don’t think you will be turned down because you smoked pot in the past. Most people have tried drugs at some point in their lives. The pot is automatically out of your system.

If you get the internship, you are not officially a “White House intern” until you passed the drug test. The drug test is basically an urine sample. You will not know when you will take the drug test once you are down in DC until the White House contacts you. It can be within the first week of the program or within the first month. Just be ready at all times.

Make sure that the White House/FBI do not detect any illegal substances (that includes pot) or you will be kicked out of the program. And trust me they will.

@whapplicant2013 The White House will accept Summer 2013 applications until January 27th. Rolling acceptance and rejection emails and interview and background check information start going out late February.

You can find more information about the program here (http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/internships/FAQs</a>).

If you guys have any more questions, feel free to private message me on this site. Good luck! :)

Question: If accepted, is the FBI background check a simple background check, or does it require a comprehensive security clearance investigation?

Hm, does anyone know what the time scale is for the departmental review to be over? It is very difficult to find a place to stay and purchase airplane tickets so awfully late …

To build on what iChristina said, you should definitely report drug usage on your SF86. The WH will keep the forms on file and if you apply for an executive agency or intelligence job down the road that requires a high clearance level, the FBI will investigate every claim you make on your forms (and probably look at consistency between multiple SF86 forms you have submitted)…if your buddy from high school admits that you guys did weed together, but you didn’t report it on the form, the damage from your dishonesty is much worse than any damage your reported experimental drug use will cause you.
