White House Internship

Accepted about two weeks ago. I’ll be staying in the International Student House in Dupont.

@caapplicant2012 - You were the poster who had a time constraint, correct? I looked at ISH just in case, but am hoping to (potentially) find something cheaper if selected.

@everyone else - I literally just spent two hours combing through this thread for last year’s spring applicants. So much for my last semester of finals…Haha. Early/Mid December seems to be conditional acceptance time, so maybe we will start hearing stuff this week? Anyone else besides caapplicant receive a conditional acceptance/rejection yet?

@WH2013CA - I didn’t have the time constraint (that was WH2013app). I went with ISH because most of the universities don’t offer spring housing as this session is during the semester. Based on my research, most housing during the spring is pretty pricey even if you do have roommate(s).

@caapplicant that’s right, congrats then! Are you at liberty to say which office you’ll be with? Super happy for you :)

Scratch that - saw earlier threads. Happy AIP day tomorrow everyone! ;)

Hi caapplicant2012, how long did you wait between getting your acceptance and turning in your departmental review information?

Sorry I’ve been completely busy with finals recently, but to answer some of your questions, I have heard that the departmental review takes about a month, but could be shorter or longer depending on if you had anything on there they need to research more, such as drug/alcohol abuse, foreign nationals that you’re close with, etc.

Another friend of mine here at school interviewed with a different department and got his departmental review around the same time I did, but hasn’t heard anything yet either.

CAapplicant - I’ll be living in WISH housing at the Congressional, can’t wait to get to DC!

Hi seltaire - I waited about two weeks between review and acceptance.

WH2013app - What department will you be working with?

Ahh, 2 weeks … I am worried about looking for housing, etc. at this point because of the possibility that I am waitlisted and not actually accepted. If I do get this, I would have less than a month to make all the necessary arrangements. That is a bit troublesome.

Just joined the boards. My experience: an interview 2 weeks after submission of application, received the departmental review more than 3 weeks ago and was wait-listed 2 days later. Any idea on the chances of wait-listed applicants getting accepted?

I think it depends on whether the person accepted drops out of not. Some people apply not realizing the financial burdens of an unpaid internship or things come up.

What’s the latest everyone?

Btw, @caapplicant2012:

Haven’t looked at this in awhile, but congrats on being accepted! Personally, I’ve gotten 3 processing e-mails so far lol. Anyway, I live in DC now, but I’m also from California and I will be living at ISH in Dupont too starting in January. Lmk if there’s anything you want to know about the city

Hello everyone. I haven’t been on this for quite sometime. Here has been my journey in the application/waiting game. I turned in my application in the second to last day before the deadline. Received an APE Nov. 13. Then about two weeks ago was accepted into the program. I’ve read some of you will be staying at ISH…do you have to actually apply three months out in advance to be housed there. I had never heard of ISH until I read this thread. I was considering WISH. Let me know if you guys have any insight on housing! Best of luck to the rest of you all waiting…hoping you guys here good news soon.

Just signed up to let everyone know that I got turned down this week. Submitted for departmental review (although without an interview) but it’s no guarantee. Best of luck!

My application was like someone trying to dunk on Lebron: REJECTED

Huh, that is kind of strange. A departmental review without an interview from a department?

Politricks - I’m sorry to hear that, though I like the analogy. Nice to hear about another Californian staying in ISH. Perhaps I’ll see you in January - I’ll be arriving sometime in the first week of the new year.

I received an interview on November 21st, was sent a Departmental Review a week later and turned it in around December 2nd, and I just had a ‘processing’ e-mail today. Not sure if it is a good sign.

I wish they would give me an answer already, so I have an idea what is going to happen to me in the coming year.

APE #4 this week. Passed the six week mark for my departmental review. Best test of patience/faith I’ve ever had!

I’d imagine you would be fine … If they were going to reject you, wouldn’t they do so earlier?

[EDIT] I just got word back that I was wait listed.
