Same and same.
Blasphemy!!!
My understanding is heās actually a White Sox fan.
He is a Sox fan, his mother was from the north side and a Cubs fan, and his father a Cardinals fan per his brother. Just to straighten it out.
Indeed, original coverage I saw said Cubs, but I just saw a clip of the Pope at 2005 WS in White Sox gear Not that I doubted his brother.
Not that it really matters, since heāll ell rarely return to Chicago and almosr assuredly never again see a Sox game live.
But heās adapted since relocating to Rome, and now follows association football (aka soccer) and is an AS Roma supporter.
I believe he has now changed loyalties to being a Los Angeles Angels and New Orleans Saints fan. Professional obligation. He also strongly opposes the NJ Devils hockey team.
Maybe the San Diego Padres as well???
Just as cardinals eat at their favorite restaurant in Rome before a conclave because they know that if they become Pope they wonāt have that opportunity to be a normal person again
Iām pretty sure I read that the Pope has a favorite Peruvian futbol team.
As did the last pope (well Argentinian team!). In fact, when I went to Vatican a couple years ago there was a small exhibit of all his soccer/football memorabilia Was a big fan apparenlty.
Supposedly Alianza Lima
The pope was originally supposed to be in Chicago this summer but now obviously not. I wouldnā t be surprised however if Chicago gets a Papal visit at some point in the future given his very close relationship woth his brother here and the huge Catholic population of the city. His brothers already went to Rome ( yesterday)
One more interesting fact I saw. The popes mother didnāt marry til her mid 30ās amd she was 40+ when he was born
I think thatās a given. But if he ever again steps foot in Wrigley Field, or indeed any ballpark, it will be to celebrate Mass rather than watching a game.
I admittedly wasnāt paying that much attention, but I was still surprised to learn that Pope Francis never visited Argentina.
I do wonder with Pope Leo if he might be inclined to visit Peru before he visits the U.S.
I think it has more to do with security when/if they can visit a city or country. The cardinals are sort of like senators flying on planes and going back and forth from their homes to DC - not a big deal and no need to clear it months in advance. The pope is like having a president visit and takes a lot of advanced planning.
Pope Francis had a gelato shop he liked to visit in Rome and I got the impression he liked to just drop in.
No, but he visited many neighboring countries, including Chile. There may have been some conflict with the Argentine government of the time
Both Benedict and JPII visited their native countries as Pope. And both, plus Francis and Paul VI made papal visits to the US
A joke/notjoke I heard from a history professor I know whose research covers the history of immigration and internal migration patterns in the US:
āIn 2025, the Catholic Church will have a pope who grew up in Chicago!ā sounds like the kind of prediction that you would have read in the sort of hysterical propaganda against Irish immigration you got in the late 19th century.
And she went to DePaul University!
