Whitney Houston dead.

John 8:7
…

i have no sympathy for those who have every possible resource to help themselves and choose to continue to be an addict…i do have sympathy for those who need help but either can’t afford it or can’t get the help… Whiteny Houston was the worst kind of drug addict, a wealthy one who was able to beat the system with her weath and celebrity status

Wow, I came to the thread with the intent of expressing my sadness for the passing of a talented woman who struggled with her addictions. I certainly did not expect to see this.

My brother died as a result of his addictions. In the immediate weeks prior to his death, he went to rehab twice. He was a caring, wonderful man … a father who truly loved his daughter, a fine son and brother, a valued employee, a faithful believer. Yet, he was unable to overcome his addictions and succumbed at the age of 44. Your remarks are beyond insensitive, not only as they relate to Whitney Houston … but as they relate to every other human being who struggles to overcome addictions that hold them hostage.

Wonderful post, kelsmom. My sympathies on the loss of your brother.

Just read that her daughter has now been rushed to the hospital. Edit: Oops! Now I see that this was already posted. Still very sad.

I don’t know if this has been posted or not, but apparently Bobbi Kristina (Whitney’s daughter) was taken to the hospital. [Bobbi Kristina, Whitney Houston’s Daughter, Rushed to Hospital - ABC News](<a href=“Bobbi Kristina, Whitney Houston's Daughter, Released from Hospital - ABC News”>Bobbi Kristina, Whitney Houston's Daughter, Released from Hospital - ABC News)

That poor thing… it sounds like she took care of her mother while she was going through addiction and recovery- something no young adult should have to do. I sincerely hope she gets the support and help she needs and doesn’t spiral into a depression. My heart breaks for them both.

Bobbi Kristina has had a very difficult life, and this will be hard for her. Fortunately, she has an extended family that is sure to be there for her.

qdogpa:

Confused. qdogpa or qGodpa?

Now they are saying there will be a hold on her autopsy…

On the actual autopsy or just the results? I think they said from the beginning that nothing would be released until tox screens came back.

May you rest in peace Whitney…and may your daughter have love and support to get her through. This negativism was also apparent on the Penn state thread…I think it shows great insensitivity to the dead.

Agree Absweetmarie and kelsmom. I came to read about Whitney , not judge her life. No matter what, you cant take away her amazing talent. I was really pulling for her, and am sad that she came to this end. We cant walk in someones’s shoes, even if you have walked that path, everyone is different. It just isnt that simple. Concerning to me is the insensitivity that has been expressed. This is all too common in our world these days.
Anyway, I remember when she came on the scene so beautiful, and that voice!!! her rendition of the national anthem was classy and beautiful. Especially when you think how so many others have massacred it. My youth was spent listening to her voice and it was a gift. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Okay, some favorite songs:

We Didn’t Know, duet w/Stevie Wonder from I’m Your Baby Tonight

Queen of the Night from The Bodyguard

Run to You from The Bodyguard

I’m Your Baby Tonight from I’m Your Baby Tonight

and a beautiful duet with her mother, Cissy Houston, called I Know Him So Well

Also any of the gospel songs from The Preacher’s Wife.

downtoearth, so was I. Hoping to hear one day soon Whitney, like Natalie Cole and others, had truly beat her demons.

I gained 45lbs while pregnant w/ D (like Oprah I have an unhealthy fondness for potato chips). To get back in shape I had a friend’s husband make me a cassette tape (remember those) I could play in my walkman on my 3.5miles daily walk. The tape was mainly Whitney and Patti LaBelle hits w/ a few Walter (not Michael) Jackson songs for warm up and cool down. I lost those 45lbs …. Thank You Whitney may you RIP.

Teriwt, where have i said i disdain Anyone who suffers from addiction? Please stick to the facts, criticize me for what i said, fine…BUT don’t say something that is untrue…

qdogpa, You said “she is nothing but a drug addict” “zero sympathy for her” repeatedly calling her a “junkie” even talking about her daughter “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” If that is not SHOWING disdain and contempt for a fellow human being, then I truly don’t know what does.

Ok, she is a role model, a person for the youth of today to look up to… nd i am still waiting for the comment teriwtt says i made that i disdain ANY person suffering from addiction…good luck finding that

So then, you are selective in your disdain. Good to know.

I’m not going to argue about the definition of tragedy, but if Whitney’s death was not tragic, her life was. To judge someone because of the circumstances of their death overlooks the life that brought them there.

Whitney Houston started performing when she was about 11. She had little choice. It was what her family did. She performed with her mom in nightclubs as a pre-teen/teen. From that time on, her life was not her own. She had a job. She was promoted non stop. She had to be thin; she had to be as non-black as possible; she made album after album; she was supposed to cross over to acting; she had a touring schedule that would break many.

Did she have a chance to develop any self worth separate from those things. Did she have a chance to develop coping skills, self preservation skills? She suffered from stage fright and panic attacks, yet had to perform. Were drugs used early on just to make it possible for her to do her job? She was a golden ticket for Clive Davis. Did anyone really champion her, step in to protect her when she was just a teen?

When she lost her voice and her model looks, what did she have? She was pursued, ridiculed, pressured to come back, come back, come back. What happened if she couldn’t - what was left for her? She was supposed to come back again at the Grammy’s yet her voice was not what it was and would never be - more ridicule, more criticism, more disappointment. Yeah, some survive a life like that but she didn’t. Are we so sure we would?

Whitney was broken long before she even had a chance to be whole.

Okay dog, I gotcha. You only have disdain for RICH people who can’t beat addiction because they have the means to beat it. On what planet do you live that makes you think that just because somebody is famous and has money that they should be able to beat their addiction?

Somebody needs a reality check, and his/her/it’s name is dog.

Music is a powerful memory cue for some people and it is for me. Hearing her songs take me back to the days when I was attending college… dating my now husband…starting my new career. Some of her songs trigger memories of the best times of my life as a young adult.
“One Moment In Time” will always give me goosebumps.
