Whitney Houston dead.

romani-
First they said the hold was on the autopsy, but now they are saying the autopsy will be completed today or tomorrow but there will be a hold on the results.

And yes, apparently Bobbi Kristina was taken twice to the hospital, but has been released.

Frankly, I don’t give a good god damn about whether the drugs she took were or were not legal. Why does this matter so much to you? Was it worse to be an alcoholic during Prohibition because it was ILLEGAL??? I just don’t get you at all, sorry.

qdog, you are entitled to express you feelings about drug abusers, addiction and the like. As well as the differences you feel about rich verses poor, celebrity verses proletariat users …. just not in this thread -start another thread. Leave this thread for posters who want to express their sorrow and show their respect for the loss of a music icon.

She made it big when I was an aspiring dancer in NYC. She got married the same year I did and her child is the same age as mine. Of course I never knew her, but her rise to fame was the backdrop to my late teens and 20’s.

What a shame that fame and fortune was too much to handle and she may not have had solid footing or the ability to surround herself with down to earth people.

I grieve mostly for her daughter and those who loved her. Reminds me of MJ - not surprising, but still sad, and a tragic way to live and die.

Here you go:

And let’s not get into a debate about your definition of “disdain.”

Guys, if you ignore q, he’ll go away. Can we please just leave this thread for Whitney’s memory and not arguing with q? He’s just not worth it.

I’m watching the Grammy’s tonight just to see how they incorporate Whitney stuff (normally I don’t care about awards like this). I can’t imagine what everyone must be going through trying to wrap their heads around this AND do all the Grammy stuff. It’s just so surreal, I’m sure.

Lionel Ritchie was interviewed today about Whitney and he made the point that Whitney was held up as THE benchmark for any female performer. He said (in essence) “imagine the pressure of always being held up as the best-you can never stumble, never falter, every performance must be worthy of the title of THE BEST. Imagine what it’s like to age and feel the agony of knowing that you are ‘slipping’ and the judgment that brings with it.” I could see how that could contribute to performance anxiety and a constant feeling of professional vulnerability. I see it as similar to an actress who is primarily valued for her beauty-what is left for someone like that when her beauty inevitably fades? It’s a shame she didn’t choose a healthy way to deal with all of these feelings. Perhaps she was put into the limelight at an age too young to have developed healthy coping mechanisms, perhaps she was genetically predisposed to addiction, who knows?

Unlike some, I find her story sad. From most accounts, she had a beautiful soul in addition to a beautiful voice, and the fact that she essentially destroyed herself with drugs or alcohol is the very definition of tragic to me.

romanigypseyes, quite right.

The UK Daily Mail is reporting that she was found drowned in the bathtub in her hotel room. There were prescription bottles found of Xanax, Valium that coupled with alcohol she might’ve fell asleep and drowned.

Thank you Nrdsb4.

One of D1’s best friends from middle school and high school has come over tonight to watch the Grammys with H and I (even though D1 lives in Boston and is not here with us). I remember how much they adored Whitney when they were younger. Of course, part of what they bonded on during those years was their love of music (and show choir, of course).

Sevmom gets credit too, along with Nrdsb4.

And agree with romani.

Reports are that she drowned in the bathtub after taking prescription medication (xanex or valium.) These may have been mixed with alcohol. It is unlikely that it was an overdose, however, and its unfair to characterize this event as the relapse of an addict.

I agree with Romani’s sentiment, however, and don’t want this to become a big argument again, but I thougt someone should say it.

Here’s to celebrating a beautiful woman with perhaps the best voice to grace the airwaves. Talent can cause meteoric success, but it can also cause someone to crash to the ground.

The Oprah Winfrey interview with Whitney was just on the news.

I wasn’t familiar with Whitney Houston until I worked at a high-end boutique in NJ for a few years. They played Julio Iglesias virtually non-stop, but once in a while, the owner’s daughter changed the CD to Whitney Houston. I remember hearing “How will I know” and “Greatest Love of All” about a hundred times, but I never got tired of them. She had an incredible voice.

How dare Celine…

We should boycott her concerts…

^^^momma-three, I read that Oprah’s network will be repeating the interview in its entirety. I think it will be Thursday night.

Poor thing.

Celine dion and the daily news. What wonderfully reliable sources.

Sony just raised prices on Whitney Houston’s albums. How classy:p

May she find in death peace that she could not find in life.

Wow! That’s absolutely incredible. Thanks for sharing.
