I’m sorry…I usually find celebrity nonsense tedious. But the girl SHAVED HER HEAD in public! The mother in me is very worried about this child. (And yes, I think it is obvious she still has the needs of a child.) Where is her family? Doesn’t anyone in her life care that she is clearly having major problems?

(Sorry Northstarmom…I know you hate this stuff. )

Plus, ldmom06, it turns out that Britney has a really, really ugly head. I mean, that is just not a head that is meant to be seen without hair. Isn’t it amazing that this is a person with TWO children? I’m so scared for those kids…

I just find it fascinating how different the reaction is between her, and when Natalie Portman shaved her head a year or so ago. Maybe it’s because they’re polar opposites when it comes to being well-adjusted I dunno.

Well, for me at least, the difference is a few things:
a) Natalie Portman looked pretty good with her shaved head–odd, perhaps, but not bad (IMO), whereas Britney looks…really freaky.
b) If I recalled correctly, Natalie Portman shaved her head for a role, whereas (as far as we know), Britney shaved her head just because
c) Natalie Portman is so not crazy, and Britney…is crazy, I think. She certainly has crazy eyes, and crazy behavior to match her new odd look.

And now I have really spent way too long on Britney’s craziness…

hey i agree with citygirlsmom on something! I am just hoping to God that this does not start a trend among young girls. Also, seriously, a BALD HEAD? Ohhh Kaaay.

Didn’t she more or less “divorce” her parents a few years ago? She really seems like she’s in desperate need of good parenting, which makes the fact that she is a parent very scary and sad.

My S. mentioned this yesterday. Being a know-it-all, I said she’s probably symbolically shaving her head to indicate a fresh start, and leave her foolish ways behind (is that possible?), or at least prove she’s trying to, before she loses her children to her ex-husband).
After hearing it on the news, though, it sounds it was a ‘spontaneous’ thing. Who knows-

Britney’s behavior concerns me because of her two young children. If she wasn’t a mother, I wouldn’t really care. Natalie Portman, as far as I know, is single and childless.

I, too, initially thought of this as a symbolic fresh start, but now I wonder. She seems to be so screwed up and to think that she has two little ones, sigh. If you’re going to have kids, plan to spend the next several years letting them be number 1 in your everyday life. If you have to work, hurry home. How hard can this be, we parents have all done this. And sure we have gone out and tied one on once in a blue moon, but this girl has hardly been home to change a diaper in how long?! It really is sad to see how her life has gone down the tubes in recent years. From a tabloid queen to a bathroom joke.

Natalie Portman shaved her head in order to play the role of Evey in the movie “V for Vendetta.” Also, Natalie Portman is an accomplished Harvard grad whose already-successful show biz career is on the way up. Her head shaving could be taken as the mark of a dedicated professional who is devoted to her craft.

By contrast, Britney is seen as an uneducated, washed-up pop star who prefers drunken partying to taking care of her young child. Her head shaving could be taken as one more freaky sign of someone spiraling down out of control, headed for a crash.

I don’t think it’s a big deal. Nor do I think other people would if Britney had the same delicate, beautiful features as Natalie Portman or Sinead O’Connor.

Flashing her genitals? That’s a big deal. Partying all the time when she has two babies at home? Big deal, again. Sleeping with multiple men immediately after divorcing? Ditto.

So… maybe K-Fed was the “normal” one in the relationship??? omg!

What about these 2 babies at home?
Someone needs to intervene in this fiasco, and soon! At least for the welfare of the innocent children, who probably won’t even recognize this person as their Mommy…

I believe she spent all of one day in rehab, then checked herself out. Just wasn’t her thing. Unfortunately I think she has to hit rock bottom (she’s getting close!).

I actually feel sorry for her (and those poor kids). Her career is nowhere and imo she has little talent…I doubt if she’d make the cut for American Idol. Oddly (or sadly), my daughter likes her.

I’m not in the habit of defending Britney Spears but I have to say that it’s very probable that her children are just fine. They are likely being raised by nannies, like millions of other children across North America. Her own somewhat bizarre behavior is undoubtedly troubling for a young woman but probably not unique except for the fact that it’s being played out around the world on tv and in the print media because of her celebrity. Calls to intervene, if they come from people who actually know her are one thing, but from people who only know what she’s doing from seeing a news clip or an online story about her shaving her head are a little silly. Are the stories about some of her behavior troubling? Sure, but do any of us really know how often she’s out partying, or what direct involvement she has in her babies’ care, or how many men she’s slept with? I doubt it.

IMHO, the crisis will climax if she perhaps comes to realize that there ISN’T anything deeper…her entire life has been lived at the superficial level.

I find her very dysfunctional public behavior disconcerting as she continues to be revered by some young, vulnerable girls. I also worry for her children who did not choose to be born to dysfunctional parents.

I do understand what you are saying, but unfortunately, her “celebrity status” DOES impact her family, especially her young children. People do not live in vacuums. The conduct they embrace has a ripple effect, even if that should not be so. Even if I, as a non-celebrity, chose to behave in the ways that Spears has in the past several months, my children would feel the effects. I don’t think it takes a mental health professional to see that Spears’s behavior is symptomatic of emotional distress and as such, requires intervention by those closest to her.

I guess I’m putting Britney’s behavior in the following context.

As I understand from the CNN coverage…Britney has repeatedly flashed the paparazzi in the most vulgar way and one has to assume after doing it once, she knew what she was doing subsequently. She has been photographed covered with vomit several times in the last week. Her latest paramour has been photographed wiping her vomit out of his lap. The poor woman’s every move is documented, so the world knows she has been in clubs nightly for the last couple of weeks. She has been photographed completely disrobing in a strip club. The head shaving bit was disturbing because, according to reporters, she sat in her limo crying for 10 minutes before entering a hair salon, taking a seat by a window and publicly shaving her head herself. She acknowledged the cameras and when she left the establishment she told the reporters in a monotone voice the reason she shaved her head was ‘because of them’. (I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume that she shaved her head herself because the stylists were too horrified to do it. Who really wants to be the one known for shaving Britney’s head under those circumstances?)

So I do think she is young woman with major problems and I do agree with the assessment that she is having a public mental breakdown. It is a shame there is no family member either willing or capable of helping her.
