Who wants to play "name the puppy"?

I grew up with a black cat named Frosty…

so I’ll cast a vote for Winnie…

Come on folks 'fess up. We all don’t want to name the puppy. We want to HAVE the puppy.

lol zooser!!! nailed it

My brother’s old black lab was named Indy, which was short for Indigo. A great black dog’s name, IMO.

Umm…my carpets and I would rather name a puppy than own one. A friend has a goldendoodle. He has a rubber chicken he is obsessed with. I have thrown it for hours and that damn dog never gets tired. In his head I am forever “the chicken lady” and whenever I show up he haunts me with that thing. I vote for Winnie or Zoosermom’s suggestion.

Or Abby ( A bee and Honey!) for a girl dog.

My series of kitties had sweet names/spice…Hershey (dark chocolate color), Oreo (black with white tummy) and Nutmeg (shortened to Nutty–which fit very well!)

Oh, a cute female Goldendoodle! How about Lizzy, Sadie or Gigi?

We have a black lab. His name is Batman. It fits him.

I think Magic is a cool name for a black girl dog. :)

My next dog will be named Marty after my father. He would be honored and it’s a unisex name. (don’t ask me when we will get a dog…last one only lasted 9 very long months with us, it was either her, my job or the infant.)

We named a dog Annie, as she was an orphan. FIL’s comment was ‘that was my mothers name’. I don’t think he ever forgave us.

moral of story - research family tree to see if you will pi$$ someone off with a name.

Sherlock Holmes kept bees… so how about Sherlock? :)

Baked Ham? :-)

OK, one more: Milken

I haven’t read through the entire thread, so apologies if someone has posted this.

Check out Nameberry[/url”>http://nameberry.com/]Nameberry. This site is purportedly for naming the human offspring, but all pet owners know that the furry critters are also children.

It’s not an alphabetical list of names with their archaic original meaning. It has name collections, and name connotations. So for example, our newest cat Josie’s name is “jaunty and friendly: among the most winning of all nickname names” and can be found on the lists “Old School Nicknames” and “Celtic Baby Names”, among others.

For inspiration, there’s a banner across the top of the page showing real-time name searches. As I write this, people are looking at “Senna”, “Lola”, “Penny”, “Quinn”, “Iris”, and “Giselle”, among others. (Any of which, come to think of it, might make a cool dog’s name.)

Two of my neighbors have Choc lab cousins. One is Guiness and the other Kona. Kona is a sweet girl that has been well trained and Guiness is an overgrown rude boy.

I’ve told my hubby the next cat we get is going to be called ‘nutjob’ because every cat we get is a little wonky.

;)

I’m supposed to be working, but now I can’t stop thinking of puppy names.

Is Honey named after the type of bee or the product of the hive? Depending on which it is, appropriate companion names would include:

-- Bumble
– Beeswax (or Royal Jelly, “Roy” for short)

Or, if you wanted to go with a more bad boy image:

-- Hornet
– Stinger

I loved the prior suggestion of:

-- Queen Bee (“Queenie” for short)

As an alternative to Queen Bee (and to avoid upstaging poor Honey), how about:

-- Aunt Bee

And two more:

-- Phoebe
– Clover

This is fun! Now I want to get two labradoodles and a bee hive!

(Note that I refrained from suggesting “Badger Don’t Care.” Too silly.)

As the “parent” of two goldendoodles, one cream and one black, our original list of names was quit long! Unfortunately out black doodle is a male, so I don’t have as many original girl names for a black dog; plus the black doodle is really my granddog that is now living with me, so I didn’t get the final vote on his name!

In keeping with a food theme (well loosely) how about Licorice, Beluga, Pepper or Anise?

Some other black names: Jet, Magic, Midnight, Onyx, Twilight, Raven and Ebony

I could come up with names forever, but you have to have one you really love because you will use it a lot, especially when she is a puppy :)

Whatever name you pick make sure it goes well with “…the Wonder Dog.”

That way you can regularly refer to her as “_________ the Wonder Dog.”

^^friends refer to my very sweet lovable dog as Hunter the Wonder Dog…that is except those who call him Ghunter since he is a little sausage in body type and has never and will never hunt anything.

molasses, or Molee (stress accent on 2nd syllable). Mole (with accent mark). Cannot hyphenate correctly from ipad, sorry
