Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

rolemodel, to be honest, i would be prepared to read anything in that letter. indeed the hotel school is “weird,” but more characteristic of the hotel school is that they are cutthroat. i was rejected TWICE. the second time i applied, my application must have been EXPLODING with materials and passion to attend. however, the rejection still came.

i’m sorry to say the hotel school is looking for TOP external transfer applicants (by top i mean top grades, top scores (one of the only colleges to really examine SAT’s for transfers), and top experience). if you’re lacking in one of those areas, you will likely get a rejection letter… but you might be the exception.

if you want it badly enough, reapply. like a wise woman once told me, there is always a way in – you have to want it badly enough.

Thanks everyone lol.

I honestly didn’t even think about applying to the hotel school until my bf wanted to apply … so needless to say I didn’t want it THAT MUCH. Plus, there are a lot of great options at my current school so I’m not really at much of a loss.

I think what killed me were my essays and my extracurriculars. I kind of BSed my essays since I didn’t really want to go into hotels just their business school and concentrate in something else. They probably saw right through that haha … Also, I know the hotel school likes related activities (in customer relations? or hotels?), which I didn’t have.

For freshman applicants (regular apps) I know they accepted people who had really great grades and are at the top of their class. They couldn’t have really counted for activities since they were applying in high school. For transfers, My bf’s sister applied as a freshman for spring and she worked at a hotel, had a 4.0 GPA at a state school, really good grades in HS, and good extracurriculars. This is just based on people I know in the hotel school …

The hotel school is crazy hard to get into. We all know you tried and we wish those of you waiting the best of luck. Speaking of waiting, I’m waiting for my car to get an oil change and on the phone I was promised it would only take a half hour and now they’re like “at least an hour, probably more because more people came”. Excuse me? Then why did I make an appointment 4 days ago if you’re just lettig people show up and get in front of me? Ugh I hate people.

Azu, that’s great about the hospital! I really hope you get it. I don’t know how to get nominated, sorry. I guess go to the transfer advisor asap and tell them about your intentions andsee if they’ll help you.

Wow, haven been here in long time lol Too long if u ask me :)

Serendipity, sorry to hear that :frowning: Keep being positive though :D

Ironic, that sucks :S Ppl get on my nerves too. Many time :D

Hey guys, quick question:

As you know I applied to Emory. The assistant dean confirmed that my file was now complete and he was going to read and send it over to the dean. Yet, today I checked my self service thingy from Emory and it said I had to submit a Statement of Finances. What the heck is that?? I have to get it from the bank?? (Great since the bank in PR are so diligent sarcasm) I researched it online and apparently, they only required for International Students. I also read they have to submit after being admitted. I sent them email, I call them later today if anything. What I don’t get is why do I have to submit it? If it’s only for International students ?? Gee, that’s one of my biggest pet peeve, ppl who automatically assume PR is international, when we have been US citizen for more than 40 years and part of the US for more than a 100. EEEK! Sorry to rant. Do any of you guys know what that statement means?? Please help :D

Hi jemmayale,
I’m an international student and I’m pretty sure that the Statement of Finances are only for international students and foreign citizens. If you have American citizenship, you shouldn’t be required to submit it. The “Statement,” which you need to get from the bank and have signed by your bank manager, basically needs to say that your family has enough savings in the bank to pay for your education in the states since international students don’t qualify for or get very little financial aid from American schools. I would clarify with Emory whether or not you need to submit the Statement. Hope this helps!

^^ Thanks you so much Calbear  You really did help me alot. I sent them an email about 2 hours ago asking the reasons behind it. They usually answer around 1pm. I’ll call them around 2 if anything :frowning: Ugh, I hate this and thanks again. You have no idea how much u helped :D

Just called ILR. Don’t bother checking your self-service page since they’re only notifying applicants via express mail this year. I’m not sure why and I’m not sure if that applies to all other colleges as well (although the trend which we’ve seen here suggests that it does), but I thought I’d just let you good folks know.

I believe it has/does apply(ied) to all schools, given that I believe accmajor was a random one to be notified by email first, package later, but everyone else got a letter as the first notice of admission or rejection.

I hope Emory goes well, Jemma! But I hope you get into Vassar a little more ;D Then we’re only a bus ride away. My brother just visited Vassar with the family, and he ranked it as about #5 on his list of applications. He’s still only a junior though…but with a 98 GPA and really high PSAT scores (as well as like, 3 AP classes already) chances are he’s got quite a few more schools to look into. UChicago is his absolute favorite, but he’s ruled out Cornell (my mom thinks it’s because I’m going there, haha. I know that’s not why though.)

I’m off to work (on a weekday…?) soon, so I’ll check back to see what the happiness/damage is tonight. Good luck, guys!

I’m at the doctos office and then I need to head home and start on that massive pile of work. My doctor is a cornell alum though, so I’m sure he’ll be happy for me and I’ll see if he has any jerseys I can buy from him hehe.

Jemma I second what water says! I want you to get into vassar so you can come see us all the time hehe

Ryan and Emine, Trust me, guys! Me too lol I’m praying, hoping I’ll be accepted at Vassar. I love everything about it and it close to Cornell so I’m not too far away and I can still feel at least a bit Cornellian hahah:D I also enjoy the fact that is cold lol You may think I’m crazy but after 19 years of living in a island where the weather is 87 to 90 degrees year long, I welcome a nice change. Again, keep doing what every you do for me to get into Vassar  My materials are all processed. They are probably reviewing it right now. The decision deadline is late December  My little Christmas miracle yeiiih!!

Update: I called and yes there was an error. They told me to send an email to the person responsible of the OPUS. yeih.

woohoo, i told you there was nothing to worry about! and you will get in. plus you’re already an honorary cornellian, so don’t worry about that ;)

lalalalala procrastinating. since i did that 5 page paper on sunday, i don’t feel like doing these other papers tonight. blahhhhhh. better get used to it i suppose… cornell will probably assign this much each week ha.

also, for those of you who were’t happy with your credit evaluations, how did you go about requesting changes? i’m going to play around with mine tomorrow night and hopefully call humec’s registrar on thursday and tell them what i want moved, but have you had any success?

I don’t think you are crazy Jem. In southamerica, you only see snow if you go to the highlands. I lived in the coast where the lowest temperature in F is… 56? lol

bwt has anyone gotten the fin aid packet or checked online?

Have they, or will they, give out any GT’s this spring?

i called the hotel school today, the lady told me that the cornell school does post the DECISIONS ONLINE …so she told me to check my self service portal everyday and I will get the decision online be4 i get the decison via mail… lol… so i guess hotel applicants can check?? btw serendipity… what does ur self service portal say???

i’m upset about housing not being out. blahhhhhhhhhh. i need to know whether or not to 1) get a doctors note or 2) take up hermanns apartment.

did everyone ask for a single?

how about being upset about decisions not being out!

Wow. Still nothing, Maclen?

maclen, i feel like im looking in the mirror… go look at fall 09 thread, i was deff the last to find out :/
