Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

Wait, bj where are you now and what’s your difficult decision?

I’m at Texas Tech right now. Basically it goes something like this: I’m the youngest cousin/sibling in my family and the only one that goes to Tech. My family has gone to Tech for the last 4 generations so there was a considerable amount of pressure for me to go here. I really do love the school though but have been intrigued by ILR for a while now. I’d like to go into sports management and ILR is probably the best program in the country for something like that.

However… I was recently offered a job as the lead sports columnist at my school’s paper which comes with several perks that could be tremendous experience for me. I also will soon be promoted at my current job that could potentially get my foot in the door at some post graduate options. And as with most dilemmas of this nature, there is a girl (pathetic I know but you have to understand Lubbock is like 1500 miles and an 8 hr plane ride from Ithaca).

Part of me tells me I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to study ILR, live in Ithaca, and receive an Ivy League diploma. But another part (albeit much smaller) tells me I have something pretty darn good going here. It’s tough to make a decision when I haven’t even been admitted yet, but I definitely have to start thinking about it. I was hoping for something today, but I guess I can wait until next week.

Hey all. Just discovered this thread. I was accepted to hum ec, human development major. Just wanted to see who else will be transferring to that school with me!

bj8nes, i know exactly how you feel when it comes to opportunity at home versus an ivy league education

My friend had a very similar situation coming from Siena college, bj8nes (of course…that’s not really far away from Ithaca, ha. 3 hours.) But he wanted to study medicine instead of law, so he turned down a GT to ILR. He might be reapplying for next fall…we’ll see. I really don’t care if he goes anymore, I’ve met so many great people I’m not worried about needing one of my better friends with me.

I wish you luck with your decision. Hopefully (AGAIN) the ILRies will hear within the week. Gahh my head is aching like crazy.

Oh, um, I got my housing?..It says Schuyler, so…bleh. I got a single, but I’m probably going to end up requesting a swap to the actual west campus, should they have any openings. It says it ‘auto-located’ me to the room, so maybe it can auto-locate me elsewhere now lol.

Congrats, sammas! Join the FB thread here: Redirecting...;

hey sammas!!! i’m also an HD major! where do you go to school now? were you at transfer day?

i got my single in a suite, but not in becker, i was put in keeton blah. anyone have a single in a suite in becker and want to trade? i want to be with my boyfriend.

anybody knows where court hall is? :S

What with freshmen!?!?!?! ***

Court Hall…? No idea, but I’m checking the map now. EDIT: yeah, its’ up by freshman on North Campus…at least there’s CIVILIZATION THERE. jesus…

BLAH. I don’t wanna be in Schuyler  Who’s bright idea was it to put anyone that far away from life?!

ryan i’m supposed to go to NORTH CAMPUS

i mean… i wouldnt mind somewhere in west campus but not NORTH CAMPUS!

north isn’t that bad. i actually know an AEM major living on north in risley. he’s a sophomore and he says he loves it - in fact, he requested to live on north for soph year because he liked it so much. and an added bonus: you don’t have to deal with the slope lol

ANYONE IN BECKER? PLEASE PM ME IF YOU’D BE WILLING TO TRADE ROOMS. i have a single in a suite in keeton (also on west), but i want to be in the same building as my boyfriend

yeah but … i mean i thought all transfers were supposed to live in west or somewhere else but north… also, i thought i’d be nice to live with upperclass ppl and transfers. Is there a way to change that? please , if anyone knows something, say it!

Wateradept, you got definitely had terrible luck on your housing. That is easily one of the worst locations you could get as a new transfer because it is very far from where most of the others will be (although quite a few will probably end up in cascadilla, but regardless, all those collegetown dorms are very far from dining halls, and you will be unable to cook yourself in a dorm). I know quite a few people that ended up in Cascadilla and Sheldon Ct in collegetown last spring, and none of them were able to change to somewhere else. The housing office is not very flexible and obviously want to fill all empty rooms, and that includes the crappy dorms.

My apt on west is still available for sublet next semester in a MUCH better location than Schuyler, and the rent is considerably cheaper than an on campus single (you would have your own bedroom)…at the rent price I pay per month, and factoring in utility costs you are looking at saving ~$1100 over an on campus single, and on top I am willing to negotiate on price, which means even more savings. My apt includes digital cable/unlimited cable internet and garbage in the rent, whereas on campus TV service will cost an extra $35+ per month, plus you have to buy the box for $100, and internet will start charging if you use more than 10gb/month up/down. Also have kitchen, balcony, living/dining rooms, brand new carpet, and the bathroom is shared with less people (3) than one on campus would. If you chose to cook yourself you can save a small fortune on food costs compared to a mealplan (I am literally saving $2000 on food compared to what I spent on the unlimited west campus plan last semester).

My room is larger than my single in carl becker was last semester, and the closet is built into the wall instead of taking up space in the room like the dorms, which also helps. The apt complex is across the street from alice cook which means to hang out with the other transfers that end up on west is less than a 1-2 minute walk. I am doing a credit internship next semester in california (silicon valley), otherwise I would love remaining in my apt, just want to get to better weather for the winter! If you or anyone else is interested in subletting for the spring semester (also available for the summer, but I figure most of you would only be interested in this spring) just PM me and I can send more info and pictures.

well, when you were filling out housing, what did you put for the box that asked you why you wanted to live where you wanted to live? it’s tricky cause you should have put “i want to be with upperclassmen” and that way you’d be more likely to get assigned to west. if you put “i want to be with transfers”, then you could end up in any of the transfer places. for yours… i don’t actually know. is it cause you asked for a double/triple? i suggest calling housing on monday. i’m going to call and see if i can be put in becker. actually, if andy tells me whether or not keeton has their own thermostats i would be happy staying in my single.

hermanns, how are the keeton rooms?

accmajor, they scatter transfers in the spring. Random housing becomes available because of students studying abroad and graduating early. They cannot put everyone near each other like in the fall because so many rooms are taken. It is not like they can force students that signed one year leases out of there rooms to put everyone together for one semester.

Emine, keeton rooms are smaller than becker from what I have seen. Two or my friends are in a double there this semester and it is tiny compared to the one that one of them had in cook last year. And btw, those thermostats in the rooms do not do anything… Cornell controls the temperature and it cannot be adjusted, at least it was that way in becker. I always kept mine cranked to max and it did nothing (everyone else i knew in becker was also this way). They kept becker pretty cool in the winter to save electricity I guess, but it was not too bad, but then again nothing is as bad as walking outside in January.

Idk…I hope there is. My mom is all like “but the dining is cheaper! Just deal with it!” but…I don’t want to be that far away. I’ll probably email housing, see if they can’t swap me over if anything whatsoever opens up on west.

I also don’t want to switch housing once the semester starts, because they charge you $100 for a switch and my dad just shouted at me for thinking of that option because he refuses to pay more than we have to, with all these extraneous expenses going on.

im in flora rose, lyons hall. any good news for me? and i have a question… if i end up not being able to go, should i hold up on signing my contract, cause i dont want to have to pay for it if i cant go :/

ps, if anyone wants an outsider’s opinion on hermanns apartment you can PM me lol. i don’t have anything bad to say, but if you want to hear it from someone else, i guess feel free to ask me too since i saw it.

LACEY YOURE COMING. none of this “what if i don’t come” nonsense :frowning: you have to come!!!

btw , isn’t the contract just for spring? mine says it is for a whole year
